British multinational hospitality group IHG Hotels & Resorts, one of the world's leading hospitality groups, aims to double its operating hotels in India to 100 properties over the next five years. Currently, IHG operates 46 hotels in India and has nearly 50 more in the pipeline.

In 2023, IHG recorded strong signings across its luxury, premium, and essential brands in India, expanding its presence in cities like Gurgaon, Jim Corbett, Mumbai, Amritsar, and Goa. Close to 70% of new deals were for mid-scale and upper-midscale segments, reflecting IHG's focus on this growing market. Premium and luxury hotels will see slower growth.

IHG's development pipeline features brands like InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Crowne Plaza, Voco, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and Staybridge Suites. This underscores the company's strategic focus on meeting India's growing demand for branded accommodations and offering diverse experiences.

Beyond major cities, IHG is targeting high-growth secondary markets like Amritsar, Lucknow, Zirakpur, Kasauli and Katra, while strengthening positions in popular tourist destinations. IHG has also partnered with Brigade Group to build a 300-room Intercontinental in Hyderabad.

Last year, IHG introduced its premium conversion brand Voco to India with a signing in Gurgaon. Powered by IHG's scale, Voco offers owners quick access to the upscale segment. Since launching, Voco has seen phenomenal success with 4 additional signings in 2023 across key leisure and business destinations in India.

IHG's expansion plans in India reflect the dynamic transformation of the country's hospitality sector, driven by factors like rising incomes, a growing middle class interested in travel, and new tourism developments. IHG aims to offer travellers a wider choice of accommodation through its diverse portfolio.

IHG's commitment to exceptional guest experiences also translated into the group recording impressive performances. In 2023, occupancy rates across IHG hotels exceeded pre-pandemic levels by a significant margin. Additionally, RevPAR witnessed a substantial rise of over 30% compared to both 2019 and 2022. Powered by IHG's well-loved brands, world-class loyalty programme and strength of enterprise, this growth is fuelled by the resurgence of travel, increased business activity, and a rise in conferences, particularly in major cities like Delhi and Mumbai.

IHG in India operates through 6 of its core brands - Six Senses and InterContinental Hotels and Resorts in the luxury & lifestyle segment, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts and voco in the premium segment, and Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express in the midscale and upper midscale segments. Currently, the group operates 51 hotels (over 8500 rooms) in South West Asia, out of which 46 (over 7800 rooms) are in India.
