Oyo to expand presence in spiritual hubs with 400 new properties

Synopsis

Oyo, the budget hospitality chain, is set to introduce 400 new hotels in prominent spiritual hubs across India, capitalizing on the increasing interest in spiritual tourism and a surge in domestic travel. The properties will be located in destinations like Ayodhya, Puri, Shirdi, Varanasi, Amritsar, Tirupati, Haridwar, Katra-Vaishno Devi, and the Char Dham route, aiming to be operational by the end of December. Oyo attributes this expansion to a 350% increase in searches for Ayodhya properties, driven by the opening of the Ram temple. The company plans to strategically position these properties near significant landmarks to facilitate convenient access to religious sites and tourist spots. Oyo has partnered with local authorities to address the rising demand for accommodation in Ayodhya.

Oyo, the budget hospitality chain, announced its intention to introduce 400 new hotels in prominent spiritual hubs across the country. Fueled by a notable increase in domestic travel and growing interest in spiritual tourism, these properties are set to open in well-known destinations like Ayodhya, Puri, Shirdi, Varanasi, Amritsar, Tirupati, Haridwar, Katra-Vaishno Devi, and the Char Dham route by the end of December.

Oyo attributed this expansion plan to a 350% surge in searches for Ayodhya properties due to the opening of the Ram temple. Ayodhya consistently ranked as the top-searched city on the Oyo app throughout the past year, experiencing a 70% surge in searches on New Year's Eve, surpassing popular leisure destinations like Goa and Nainital.

Last year, the company revealed plans to address the rising number of pilgrims in Ayodhya by introducing 50 homestays, providing approximately 1,000 rooms in total. Oyo stated that these properties are strategically positioned in proximity to significant landmarks facilitating convenient entry to notable religious sites and tourist spots.

Oyo has partnered with the Ayodhya Development Authority and the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation for these homestays. Oyo anticipates a rapid sell-out of these rooms due to the substantial surge in demand for the destination.
