ITC Hotels to launch its first international luxury hotel in Sri Lanka

ITC Hotels, a leading luxury hotel chain in India, is set to launch its first international luxury hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka, under the subsidiary WelcomHotels Lanka. The property, named ITC Ratnadipa, represents an investment of approximately Rs 3,000 crores and is expected to have 352 rooms. The company plans to inaugurate the hotel within the next two months. Zubin Songadwala, Vice President of Operations (South & East) at ITC Hotels, highlighted the robust pipeline of projects in different geographical locations within India, with the goal of opening 25 hotels in the next two years and reaching a total of 200 hotels over the next five years.

ITC Hotels, a prominent luxury hotel chain in India, is preparing to unveil its first international luxury hotel, ITC Ratnadipa in Colombo, Sri Lanka, by the end of the current fiscal year. The hotel is developed under a subsidiary named WelcomHotels Lanka with an investment of around Rs 3,000 crores. The hotel will offer approximately 352 rooms.



Zubin Songadwala, Vice President of Operations (South & East) at ITC Hotels, made this announcement while discussing the reopening of Welcomhotel by ITC Hotels on Cathedral Road in Chennai. The hotel group is set to continue launching new properties across different regions of India, capitalizing on a robust pipeline of projects.



ITC Hotel Group operates under six brands, including ITC Hotels, Mementos, Welcomhotel, Storii, Fortune, and WelcomHeritage, managing about 130 properties with around 12,000 keys in 80 destinations throughout the country. Over the past two years, the group inaugurated 22 hotels, with plans to open an additional 25 hotels in the next two years (January 2024-December 2025). The company's overarching goal is to reach 200 hotels with approximately 18,000 keys over the next five years, with two-thirds of the keys in the managed portfolio.



Zubin Songadwala highlighted the strategic positioning of Welcomhotel by ITC Hotels, combining contemporary elements with local cultural influences. The Welcomhotel brand is seen as an upper-upscale brand and it caters to customers seeking a bespoke experience while reflecting the rich heritage of the location.



Emphasizing sustainability, Songadwala mentioned that 22 of ITC Hotels' properties were built according to the LEED Platinum Certification Standards. Ila Prabhu, General Manager of Welcomhotel by ITC Hotels in Chennai, shared that the renovation work on the rebranded hotel was completed in a record time of 10 months. The hotel now offers 90 rooms across three categories-Executive Suites, Club Rooms, and Superior Rooms. The revamped property boasts five different outlets, including one offering Chinese cuisine.



Welcomhotel by ITC Hotels in Chennai features two banquet halls-Mandapam, with a capacity to accommodate 375 people, and Saagri on the rooftop, with a capacity of 70-80 people. This property marks the fourth hotel for the group in Chennai, signaling the continued growth and expansion of ITC Hotels in both domestic and international markets.
