Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan has gifted his Juhu bungalow, "Prateeksha," to his daughter Shweta Nanda. The property, divided into two plots totalling 16,840 sq ft, was officially transferred through two gift deeds on November 8th this year. Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan owned the larger plot, while the smaller plot was solely owned by Amitabh Bachchan. The stamp duty paid for both gift deeds was Rs 50.65 lakh. The Bachchans own several other properties in the notable Juhu area, including the bungalows ‘Jalsa’ their primary residence and ‘Janak’ which is said to be used as an office.
Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan recently gifted his cherished Juhu bungalow, ‘Prateeksha’, to his daughter, Shweta Nanda. The property is divided into two plots, measuring 9,585 sq ft and 7,255 sq ft and is managed by the Vithal Nagar Cooperative Housing Society Ltd. The bigger plot of 9,585 sq ft was owned by Amitabh Bachchan and his wife Jaya Bachchan, while the smaller plot was solely owned by Amitabh Bachchan. The deeds for the bungalow spread over a total 16,840 sq ft were executed on November 8th and registered the next day. The transfer of ownership was formalized through two distinct gift deeds, each corresponding to a specific plot on which the bungalow stands. The Bachchan family has paid a total stamp duty worth Rs 50.65 lakh for both the gift deeds. As per the current regulations, a residential property gifted by father to either daughter or son in Mumbai attracts stamp duty of nominal Rs 200 along with metro cess of 1% per deed. Prateeksha was the actor's first Juhu house, where he lived with his parents, poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and mother Teji Bachchan. It is said that the actor's poet father Harivanshrai Bachchan is said to have given the name 'Prateeksha' to the bungalow and it also features in one of his poems, with the line ‘Swagat sabke liye yahan par nahi kisi ke liye Prateeksha'”. Shweta Bachchan Nanda is a successful novelist, columnist, former model, and entrepreneur who wrote the best-selling novel 'Paradise Towers.' Prateeksha is one among the three bungalows the Bachchan family is known to own in the Juhu locality. The other two bungalows in Juhu are ‘Jalsa', where the Bachchan’s reside, and 'Janak' which is used as an office. Two other bungalows Vatsa and Ammu, part of which have been leased to Citibank and State Bank of India. Amitabh Bachchan is a keen real estate investor and has been making property investments in the western suburbs. In 2021, he purchased a 5,704 square feet duplex on the 27th and 28th floor of Atlantis building on Lokhandwala Road in Andheri West and later rented it to actor Kriti Sanon for a rent of Rs 10 lakh per month. Earlier this year he purchased four offices spread over nearly 8,400 square feet on the 21st floor in a commercial project in Oshiwara locality of Mumbai’s Andheri suburb for nearly Rs 29 crore. He also sold the "Sopaan" property in South Delhi, where his parents had once lived, for Rs 23 crore in 2022. The property was purchased by the Bachchan family's long-time friend and CEO of the Nezone Group of companies, Avni Bader.
