Canberra named global capital for highest average size homes

According to an analysis conducted by UK company Buildworld, Canberra has been designated as the world’s capital city with the largest average home size, which stands at an impressive 256.3 square metres. This is a considerable 560% larger than the average home size in Moscow, which ranked last with an average size of just 45.5 square metres, and 36% larger than Cairo, which ranked second with an average size of 188 square metres.

According to an analysis conducted by UK company Buildworld, Canberra has been designated as the world’s capital city with the largest average home size, which stands at an impressive 256.3 square metres. This is a considerable 560% larger than the average home size in Moscow, which ranked last with an average size of just 45.5 square metres, and 36% larger than Cairo, which ranked second with an average size of 188 square metres.



According to research conducted by CommSec, homes in Australia and the United States have become the largest in the world, with the average floor space of a newly built, single-family detached home in both countries being 229 square metres. The research also revealed that newly constructed homes in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) had an average size of 259 square metres, making them the largest in any capital city or any other city in Australia. Buildworld’s report also confirmed that Canberra’s homes are larger than those in any other capital city or town in Australia.
