To encourage compliance, a 2% discount is offered for online payments via the 'PMCTAX APP.' Deputy Municipal Commissioner Ganesh Shete emphasizes including the property ID in property transactions. Teams responsible for issuing notices to high defaulters will be expanded, and the Superintendent of Taxes will lead a mobile number update initiative for seamless property tax transactions.
The Panvel Municipal Corporation has taken robust action to address property tax defaulters by serving pre-seizure notices to 750 individuals who have not fulfilled their property tax obligations. This group includes 100 industrial property owners, 301 residential property holders, and 349 proprietors of commercial real estate. In response to this fiscal imperative, the municipal body has established eight specialized teams, each allocated to specific regions within Kharghar, Kalamboli, Kamothe, and Panvel. Remarkably, the corporation has achieved a historic milestone by amassing a significant sum of Rs 200 crore in property tax collections between April and October 19, 2023.
This impressive revenue achievement represents the highest collection recorded during a six-month period in the municipal corporation's history. Over the course of the last four years, a substantial sum of Rs 475 crore has been successfully recovered. This financial boost holds paramount importance as it serves as the financial lifeblood for numerous ongoing developmental projects. In a concerted effort to amplify awareness and secure compliance, the municipal authorities have employed auto-rickshaws equipped with loudspeakers to educate the citizenry about the pivotal importance of property tax payments.
The corporation has introduced a commendable 2% discount, incentivizing property owners to make their tax payments through the user-friendly 'PMCTAX APP'. Officals have advocated for the inclusion of the Property ID (UPIC ID) in property transactions, thereby facilitating the accurate and timely recording of tax payments.
In a strategic move to heighten its engagement, Assistant Civic Commissioner Sangram Roharkate has revealed plans to augment the teams responsible for issuing notices, with a primary focus on high defaulters distributed across all sectors. Mahesh Gaikward, the Superintendent of Taxes, orchestrated the comprehensive mobile number update initiative, calling upon property owners to share their Aadhaar card numbers, thereby ensuring seamless property tax transactions.
The court has not suspended the collection of property taxes, underscoring the corporation's commitment to this financial endeavour. In light of this commitment, the PMC has intensified its efforts to recover property taxes, commencing with the most significant defaulters spanning the industrial, residential, and commercial domains. The issuance of pre-seizure notices is a pivotal step in this endeavour, and property owners who disregard these notices may find their immovable properties subjected to auction as a consequence of non-compliance.
