Relief for Mahadevapura property owners as BBMP issues long-awaited Khatas

Synopsis

The BBMP in Mahadevapura has initiated the issuance of khatas for property owners after persistent delays. In response to residents' complaints, the BBMP organized "khata melas" in various wards to raise awareness and expedite the process. Over 90 khata certificates were distributed in the Hoodi subdivision and more than 70 in Whitefield, with similar plans in other sub-divisions. The delay in khatas affected tax collection. In a significant relief to property owners within the burgeoning tech hub of Mahadevapura, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has embarked on the long-anticipated process of issuing khatas. Property owners in the Mahadevapura zone have received their A-khata certificates over the past week, marking the end of a prolonged wait. This positive action was triggered by a surge in complaints from concerned residents. In response to these grievances, the BBMP's senior official, Trilok Chandra, and joint commissioner, Dakshayini, swiftly directed revenue officials to conduct 'khata melas' in each ward.

This coordinated effort has yielded remarkable results. Over the past week, more than 90 khata certificates were distributed in the Hoodi subdivision, with an additional 70 in Whitefield. The sub-divisions of Marathahalli, KR Pura, Horamavu, and HAL have also devised strategies to expedite the khatas issuance process. Dakshayini elaborated that the program effectively raised public awareness, particularly among residents who had previously been unfamiliar with the intricacies of the process. Those with some knowledge of the procedure had submitted applications under the Sakala initiative, waiting anxiously for weeks to receive their khatas.

The extensive delay in khatas issuance had a detrimental effect on tax collection, prompting the decision to arrange melas for the efficient delivery of khatas to eligible applicants. Prabhu Patel, the former president of the Rohan Vasantha Residential Welfare Association, lauded the transformation. Of the 579 flats within the association's purview, approximately 200 have now secured their khatas after a challenging journey of one and a half years. He recalled their pursuit of khatas, which dates back to 2014. At one juncture, the exorbitant bribes demanded by certain parties caused many to despair.

The melas, however, brought a delightful surprise as they observed a streamlined issuance of certificates in just two months. Presently, over 60 flat owners within their association have obtained khatas. Raju, a member of the Happy Hearts Owners' Association in Hoodi ward, commended the swift handling of khatas by the BBMP ARO, particularly highlighting the rapid delivery of khatas to all senior citizens within just one month, delivered directly to their doorsteps. Jyothilakshmi, ARO of Hoodi subdivision, clarified that khatas are currently being exclusively granted to A-khata properties, provided that all necessary documents are meticulously submitted.

This commendable effort by the BBMP reflects their commitment to enhancing administrative efficiency and simplifying the long-overdue issuance of khatas for Mahadevapura residents, alleviating their prolonged uncertainty and administrative hurdles. It stands as an innovative approach to streamlining urban governance, enhancing the lives of its citizens while reinforcing the city's reputation as a tech hub with a focus on holistic urban development.

A Khata is a crucial document in Karnataka for property tax assessment. It contains owner details, property size, location, tax assessment, and a property identification number. It proves the property owner's tax account with the municipality, determining their tax liability. Khata contains essential property information like type, size, location, flat or house number, and establishment date. It also aids in obtaining trade licenses and loans.
