In a landmark decision, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has granted approval for projects amounting to Rs 421 crore, marking a significant milestone in road development, beautification, and associated works. This is the first instance of the civic body sanctioning road projects on such a grand scale since its establishment. Addressing long-standing grievances of residents in areas previously under CIDCO, the PMC has greenlit proposals for concrete works at major junctions and the maintenance of roads and subways in various nodes like Kharghar, Kalamboli, Kamothe, New Panvel, Khandeshwar, Taloja, Navade, and Kharghar.

The comprehensive proposals encompass extensive concrete plans for Little World Mall (Sector 2) to Utsav Chowk, Belpada Underpass to NIFT College, Belpada Metro Station to Ganesh Mandir (Sector 5), footpath development at Utsav Chowk in the Kharghar node, Shiv Sena office (Sector 1) to Avida Hotel at Roadpaliand Karavali Chowk to Fire Brigade in Kalamboli.

During the administrative meeting held last week, these projects gained unanimous approval, underlining the commitment of the PMC to address infrastructural needs comprehensively. Residents who were once part of CIDCO-administered regions have often raised concerns about being overlooked by the civic body. The recent approval reflects a proactive approach to address these concerns and prioritize development.

Ganesh Deshmukh, the civic chief, outlined the strategy of parallel development, emphasizing that by concreting roads, the city can overcome repair challenges for years, ensuring a robust and enduring network. The proposals signal a strategic move by the PMC to bolster infrastructure and enhance the overall quality of life for residents in the region.

Notably, the PMC has allocated Rs116 crore for the desilting of Dharana Lake in Kalamboli. The project includes the establishment of a pump house and subsequent beautification work. A significant aspect is the commitment to obtaining environmental clearances from various government offices before commencing the project. The initiative aims to revive a project that has been stalled for the past 15 years due to challenges in securing permission from the mangrove committee under CIDCO.

The emphasis on environmental clearances showcases the PMC's commitment to sustainable development practices. By unlocking funds for both road development and ecological initiatives like lake desilting, the PMC is taking a holistic approach to city planning and infrastructure.

In conclusion, the Rs 421 crore nod for Panvel's road works and beautification signifies a transformative step in the civic body's commitment to comprehensive development. The approval of these projects underscores the city's determination to overcome past challenges, prioritize residents' needs, and set a robust foundation for sustainable urban growth. The parallel focus on ecological initiatives reflects a balanced and forward-thinking urban planning approach by the Panvel Municipal Corporation.
