• Google is evaluating investment opportunities in India across artificial intelligence infrastructure, server manufacturing and drone production, according to Ashwini Vaishnaw.
• The development follows groundwork for a proposed USD 15 billion AI hub in Visakhapatnam planned over the 2026–2030 period.
• The project includes a 1 GW hyperscale AI data centre being developed in partnership with Adani ConneX and Airtel Nxtra.
• Google has also expanded electronics manufacturing operations in India through partnerships with Foxconn, Dixon Technologies, HP and Flex for smartphone and Chromebook production.
Google is exploring additional investments in India focused on artificial intelligence infrastructure, server manufacturing and drone production as the company expands its technology and digital infrastructure footprint in the country.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated earlier this week that the technology company was evaluating investment opportunities linked to AI infrastructure and advanced electronics manufacturing following discussions with company representatives.
The announcement follows the recent launch of groundwork activities for Google’s proposed AI hub in Visakhapatnam, a project expected to become one of the country’s largest AI-focused digital infrastructure developments.
Google had earlier announced plans to invest approximately USD 15 billion over the 2026–2030 period towards the development of the AI hub. The project includes a planned 1 gigawatt hyperscale AI data centre in Visakhapatnam aimed at supporting cloud computing, AI processing and digital infrastructure requirements.
The facility is being developed in partnership with Adani ConneX and Airtel Nxtra, reflecting growing collaboration between global technology firms and Indian digital infrastructure operators.
India has increasingly emerged as a strategic market for global technology companies seeking to expand manufacturing, cloud infrastructure and AI capabilities amid rising domestic demand for digital services and data processing capacity.
Google has already expanded electronics manufacturing operations within India through partnerships with Foxconn and Dixon Technologies for local production of Pixel smartphones, which began during the previous year.
In 2023, the company also partnered with HP and Flex to manufacture Chromebooks near Chennai as part of broader efforts to strengthen India’s electronics production ecosystem.
The latest investment discussions align with India’s increasing focus on AI infrastructure, semiconductor ecosystems, electronics manufacturing and digital economy expansion under various central government initiatives. Industry participants have also observed rising institutional investment in hyperscale data centres and cloud infrastructure across major Indian markets amid rapid growth in AI adoption and enterprise digitisation.
The planned AI hub in Visakhapatnam is expected to strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s position within India’s emerging digital infrastructure landscape while contributing to demand for commercial real estate, industrial infrastructure and energy-linked developments associated with large-scale data centre operations.
