Synopsis

Ganesh Real Estate Management Institute (GREMI), backed by Ganesh Housing Limited, has received approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), becoming Gujarat’s first institute exclusively focused on real estate education. The institute is set to begin its first academic batch in August 2026 with a postgraduate programme in real estate development and management. GREMI aims to address the shortage of structured and industry-focused education in India’s rapidly growing built environment sector. The institute will initially operate from Million Minds Tech City in Ahmedabad while also pursuing deemed university status and planning a 100-acre integrated campus.

Ganesh Real Estate Management Institute (GREMI), a specialised institution focused on real estate education and backed by Ganesh Housing Limited, has secured approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). With this approval, GREMI has become Gujarat’s first AICTE-approved institute dedicated exclusively to the real estate sector. The institute is expected to begin its first academic session in August 2026.

The development comes at a time when India’s real estate and urban infrastructure sectors are witnessing rapid expansion across residential, commercial, industrial and mixed-use developments. Despite this growth, industry-focused academic programmes for real estate development, planning and management have remained limited in the country. GREMI has been established to address this gap through structured education and multidisciplinary training aligned with the evolving needs of the built environment sector.

The institute has been envisioned as part of Ganesh Housing Limited’s larger effort to contribute to the sector beyond project development by focusing on education, research and long-term capability building. GREMI is associated with Mahamati Skill and Education Foundation (MSEF), a Section 8 not-for-profit organisation established under the Companies Act, 2013. The foundation was envisioned by Shekhar Patel, director of Ganesh Housing Limited and national president of CREDAI. MSEF functions independently and undertakes its initiatives through funding support from associated entities and family trusts.

GREMI will initially operate from its city campus located at Million Minds Tech City in Ahmedabad. According to the institute, the location has been selected to ensure closer interaction between academic learning and industry exposure. The curriculum is expected to combine areas such as real estate development, finance, governance, urban planning and technology, reflecting the increasing complexity of the sector and the need for professionals with cross-functional expertise.

Speaking on the approval, Shekhar Patel said India’s real estate sector was entering a phase where urban development expectations were becoming more future-oriented and complex. He added that GREMI had been created to develop professionals with technical knowledge as well as a wider understanding of the real estate ecosystem. He further stated that receiving AICTE approval marked an important step towards building an institution aligned with global standards and industry requirements.

Dr Anil Kashyap, former chancellor of NICMAR University and currently director general and chief executive officer of GREMI, said real estate education in India had largely remained unstructured despite the sector’s scale and contribution to the economy. He added that the institute aims to make real estate education a more recognised and aspirational career path for students while also creating opportunities for research, innovation and policy discussions related to the built environment.

GREMI’s flagship Postgraduate Certificate in Real Estate Development and Management (PGCM) will begin with a founding batch of around 70 students in 2026. Alongside this, the institute has also applied to the University Grants Commission (UGC) for deemed university status. As part of its long-term expansion plans, GREMI intends to establish a 100-acre integrated campus in Ahmedabad focused on teaching, research, leadership development and residential facilities.

The institute’s launch also reflects the increasing push within the real estate sector towards professionalisation and specialised skill development. Over the past few years, the sector has seen stronger regulatory frameworks through measures such as RERA implementation, growing institutional investments and rising demand for organised urban development. Industry experts have often highlighted the shortage of formally trained professionals across planning, execution, finance and project management roles.

Ganesh Housing Corporation Limited, headquartered in Ahmedabad, has been active in the Indian real estate sector for more than six decades. The company was among the early real estate developers to be listed on both NSE and BSE. It has completed over 22 million sq ft of development and currently has around 35 million sq ft of ongoing projects across commercial, residential, industrial and data centre segments.
