The Government of India has reviewed the impact of the ongoing West Asia situation and confirmed that fertiliser and fuel supplies remain stable across the country. Fertiliser stocks are above seasonal requirements, supported by strong domestic production and imports. LPG and fuel availability continues without disruption, with no shortages reported and supply prioritised for essential sectors. PNG connections are expanding steadily, while enforcement actions are being taken against hoarding. Maritime operations, flights, and safety of Indian nationals in the region remain under control, with coordinated efforts ensuring continuity across key sectors.
The Government of India has stated that fertiliser availability remains strong and continues to exceed demand despite the ongoing geopolitical situation in West Asia. During a recent inter-ministerial briefing held in New Delhi, officials from multiple ministries shared updates on fertilisers, fuel supply, maritime operations and the safety of Indian nationals in the region.
Fertiliser stocks across the country are currently at around 195.71 LMT, compared to 174.98 LMT during the same period last year. For the upcoming Kharif season, the total requirement has been assessed at 390.54 LMT, with more than 50% already available, which is higher than the usual benchmark of around 33%. This indicates better planning and improved logistics management.
Availability across key fertilisers remains significantly higher than demand. Urea availability stands at 62.28 LMT against a requirement of 2.66 LMT, while DAP availability is 20.32 LMT compared to 0.85 LMT requirement. Similar trends are seen in MOP, NPK and SSP, confirming a strong starting position for the agricultural season.
Prices of major fertilisers have remained unchanged, with urea priced at INR 266.5 per bag, DAP at INR 1350, and TSP at INR 1300. Following the crisis, domestic production and imports together added approximately 84 LMT to the total fertiliser availability. The government has also secured additional global supplies, including 38.07 LMT of urea and expected arrivals of NPK shipments in the coming months. Fresh global tenders have been issued for DAP, TSP and ammonium sulphate to ensure continued supply during peak demand.
On the energy front, authorities confirmed that petrol, diesel and LPG supplies remain stable across the country. Citizens have been advised to avoid panic buying and rely only on official information. The government has ensured full supply for domestic LPG, PNG and CNG, while prioritising essential sectors such as healthcare, education and agriculture for commercial LPG.
LPG distribution remains steady, with no dry-outs reported at any distributorship. Online bookings have reached 99% across the industry, and delivery authentication systems have been strengthened to prevent diversion. Since April, more than 23.58 lakh 5 kg cylinders have been sold, particularly benefiting migrant workers. At the same time, enforcement drives have intensified, with over 1,570 raids conducted and strict action taken against irregularities.
Natural gas supply has also been prioritised, with 100% allocation to domestic PNG and CNG transport. Since March, about 6.12 lakh PNG connections have been activated, with infrastructure ready for an additional 2.67 lakh connections. The government is actively promoting PNG adoption and cleaner fuel alternatives, supported by faster approvals and policy measures to expand gas infrastructure.
Refineries are operating at high capacity, maintaining adequate crude and fuel stocks. To manage rising global crude prices, the government has reduced excise duty on petrol and diesel by INR 10 per litre. Export levies on diesel and aviation fuel have also been lowered to manage domestic supply.
Kerosene availability has been supplemented with an additional allocation of 48,000 KL for states and union territories. Authorities have also empowered states to take action against hoarding and black marketing under existing laws, with monitoring systems and control rooms set up nationwide.
From a maritime perspective, operations remain stable. The government confirmed that all Indian seafarers in the region are safe, with no incidents involving Indian vessels reported recently. More than 2,976 seafarers have been repatriated so far, supported by active coordination between ministries and international stakeholders. Port operations across India continue without congestion.
Efforts to ensure the safety of Indian nationals in West Asia are ongoing. Indian missions are in constant contact with citizens, providing assistance and travel guidance. Flight operations from the region have improved, with services continuing from countries such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain. Limited operations have also resumed in other regions, supporting onward travel to India.
