Synopsis

A fire broke out in a second-floor apartment at Lokhandwala Lands End, a residential building in Andheri West, on Wednesday evening, prompting the evacuation of residents from the premises. Three fire engines and two ambulances were deployed, with emergency teams reaching the spot from Andheri East and bringing the situation under control within nearly 30 minutes. While some residents were moved to the terrace, others were evacuated outside the building safely. Officials suspect the fire may have originated from an air-conditioning unit, though the exact cause is still under investigation.

A fire broke out at Lokhandwala Lands End, a residential building near Ashoka Academy in Andheri West, on Wednesday evening after flames were reported from a second-floor apartment in the tower.

The incident occurred in the ground-plus-seven-storey building at around 4 pm, following which three fire engines and two ambulances were rushed to the location. Officials said the fire was brought under control within nearly 30 minutes of the alert being received. Despite the fire brigade arriving from Andheri East, Rescue team reached the spot on time and carried out the evacuation and firefighting operation promptly.

Residents of the building were evacuated as a precautionary measure, with several people shifted to the terrace while others were safely moved outside the premises. Authorities confirmed that the occupants of the affected apartment were not present inside the house when the fire started.

While the exact cause of the incident is yet to be officially confirmed, it is suspected that the fire may have originated from an air-conditioning unit inside the apartment. The blaze remained confined to the flat and did not spread to other sections of the building.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of fire preparedness in residential buildings, especially in densely populated areas such as Lokhandwala. Residents and housing societies are generally advised to keep fire extinguishers accessible, ensure regular maintenance of electrical appliances and air-conditioners, and conduct periodic fire safety checks and evacuation drills to avoid panic during emergencies.
