Synopsis

ACME Solar Holdings has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement with Solar Energy Corporation of India for a 300 MW/1,200 MWh ISTS-connected assured peak power project. The project was awarded under SECI’s FDRE Tranche-VII tender and will supply four hours of guaranteed electricity during non-solar hours. The company said the project will use its existing night-time grid connectivity in high irradiation zones. Following this agreement, ACME Solar’s PPA-signed portfolio has increased to 6,570 MW out of its total contracted capacity of 8,070 MW, strengthening its presence in the renewable energy and storage segment.

ACME Solar Holdings said earlier this week that it has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the state-owned Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for a 300 MW/1,200 MWh Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected assured peak power project.

The agreement has been signed through the company’s subsidiary, ACME Renewtech Sixth Pvt Ltd. The project is part of SECI’s Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) programme, which focuses on ensuring reliable renewable energy supply during peak demand periods and non-solar hours.

Under the agreement, ACME Solar will provide four hours of assured peak power supply during non-solar hours. The company will also be required to maintain a minimum annual availability of 85 per cent for the project.

The company stated that the project will be connected to ISTS substations and will use its existing night-time connectivity in high irradiation zones. This is expected to support efficient utilisation of transmission infrastructure while improving renewable power delivery during evening and late-night demand periods.

The project had been awarded to ACME Solar under SECI’s FDRE Tranche-VII tender following a Letter of Award issued in February this year. The tender process was conducted under Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) guidelines, while the e-reverse auction for the project was held shortly before the award announcement.

India has been increasing focus on round-the-clock and dispatchable renewable energy projects as power demand continues to rise and states seek stable clean energy supply beyond daytime solar generation. SECI has been issuing multiple FDRE and hybrid renewable tenders over the past few years to support this transition and improve grid stability.

Following the signing of this agreement, ACME Solar said its total PPA-signed portfolio has reached 6,570 MW out of an overall contracted portfolio of 8,070 MW. The company continues to expand across solar, wind, hybrid, storage and FDRE segments as developers increasingly move towards integrated renewable energy solutions backed by storage and transmission connectivity.
