The Income Tax Department conducted an outreach and awareness programme under ‘PRARAMBH-2026’ in Thane to familiarise taxpayers and financial stakeholders with key provisions of the Income Tax Act 2025, according to an official statement issued in the past week.
The event was organised on May 21 by the office of the Principal Commissioner of Income Tax-1, Thane, and witnessed participation from more than 350 taxpayers and institutional representatives. Participants included members of the Thane Chamber of Commerce, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and representatives from local cooperative banks.
Officials stated that the programme was intended to improve awareness and understanding of the updated taxation framework introduced under the Income Tax Act 2025. Detailed presentations were delivered by Joint Commissioner of Income Tax (Audit Unit) Madhukar Anand along with chartered accountants Vimal Punamiya and Vijay Joshi.
The sessions focused on several major provisions introduced under the revised legislation, including the new ‘Tax Year’ concept, revised return filing structures and updated Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) and Tax Collected at Source (TCS) provisions. According to the department, the changes are aimed at simplifying tax compliance processes and improving convenience for taxpayers.
Officials stated that the outreach programme also included discussions on procedural implementation and operational aspects linked to the revised framework. Participants raised queries regarding compliance requirements, filing procedures and practical interpretation of new provisions during an interactive question-and-answer session conducted as part of the programme.
The department stated that the interaction helped address implementation-related concerns among taxpayers and financial professionals while strengthening awareness regarding the transition to the updated taxation framework.
According to the official release, the outreach initiative forms part of the Income Tax Department’s broader efforts to promote transparency, improve taxpayer engagement and encourage a trust-based taxation system through proactive stakeholder interaction and awareness programmes.
