The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) is planning to redevelop an old residential complex in Indira Nagar with an estimated investment of INR 110 crore as part of its urban redevelopment strategy in Lucknow. The nearly 40-year-old housing complex has witnessed structural deterioration over the years, prompting the authority to replace the existing low-rise buildings with modern high-rise apartments and upgraded civic infrastructure. The project is expected to improve housing conditions, optimise land use and strengthen infrastructure in one of Lucknow’s most established residential areas. The redevelopment also aligns with LDA’s larger focus on modern housing projects and vertical urban expansion across the city.

The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) is set to redevelop a dilapidated residential complex in Indira Nagar, Lucknow, at an estimated cost of INR 110 crore. The project is part of the authority’s broader plan to modernise ageing housing societies and improve urban infrastructure in established residential areas of the city.


The housing complex, developed nearly four decades ago, has reportedly been facing structural issues and deteriorating living conditions for several years. The redevelopment plan includes demolition of the old low-rise structures and construction of new high-rise residential towers with modern amenities and improved civic facilities.

According to officials, the redevelopment will also include better internal roads, upgraded drainage systems, organised parking spaces, landscaped green areas and improved public utility infrastructure. The authority is aiming to utilise the land more efficiently while creating safer and more modern residential spaces for residents.

Indira Nagar is among the largest and most populated residential localities in Lucknow and continues to witness strong housing demand due to its connectivity and established social infrastructure. The area has access to schools, hospitals, commercial centres and metro connectivity, making it an important residential hub in the city. Real estate activity in the locality has remained stable over the past few years because of its central location and developed civic ecosystem.

The redevelopment project is also part of LDA’s increasing focus on vertical housing and redevelopment-led urban growth. In recent years, the authority has been identifying old residential and commercial properties across Lucknow for redevelopment to address issues related to ageing infrastructure and growing urban population pressure.

Earlier this year, the authority approved a budget exceeding INR 5,100 crore for infrastructure and housing development projects across Lucknow. The plans included investments in new housing schemes, road infrastructure, civic upgrades and township development projects. LDA has also been promoting high-rise residential development in several parts of the city to improve land utilisation and increase housing supply.

Officials are expected to finalise the project structure and implementation plan after technical studies and consultations with stakeholders are completed. The redevelopment is likely to be carried out in phases to reduce inconvenience for existing residents of the complex.

The project reflects a wider trend among urban development authorities across major Indian cities, where redevelopment of ageing residential colonies is becoming an important part of city planning. With limited availability of land in developed urban areas, authorities are increasingly focusing on redevelopment projects to upgrade infrastructure and support future housing demand.
