The Bengaluru West City Corporation (BWCC) has presented its budget for FY2026-27 with a total outlay of approximately INR 4,732 crore, outlining large-scale allocations towards transport infrastructure, road upgrades, civic amenities, stormwater drain works and urban development projects across western Bengaluru.
According to the budget document, the corporation has estimated total receipts of INR 4,732.81 crore and total expenditure of INR 4,732.73 crore for the financial year. Revenue receipts are projected at INR 2,541.73 crore, while capital receipts are estimated at INR 1,259.55 crore. Capital expenditure alone accounts for nearly INR 2,834.67 crore within the proposed budget.
A significant portion of the budget focuses on infrastructure and mobility-related projects. Under the Special Infrastructure Capital Support Scheme (ASICS), BWCC has proposed arterial and sub-arterial road development and related infrastructure works at a cost of INR 667.74 crore. Separately, the corporation has also reserved INR 8 crore specifically for widening major and sub-major roads to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow.
The budget further proposes development of 174.49 km of ward roads under the Chief Minister’s Infrastructure Development Scheme (CMIDS) at a total cost of INR 317.25 crore. BWCC stated that the programme is intended to strengthen local road infrastructure and improve connectivity across wards under the corporation limits.
In addition to road projects, the corporation has announced pedestrian and urban mobility initiatives including beautification of 175 junctions, upgrading 500 km of pedestrian pathways and construction of 100 skywalks over the next three years. An allocation of INR 50 crore has been reserved in the current budget for these works.
BWCC has also proposed Transit Oriented Development (TOD)-based projects around the Goraguntepalya Metro station on Tumkur Road. The corporation has earmarked INR 2 crore for pedestrian-friendly pathways, feeder bus systems, parking facilities and road widening works aimed at easing congestion around the metro interchange zone.
The budget places emphasis on flood mitigation and water resilience infrastructure as well. Under the Karnataka Water Security and Resilience programme, externally aided projects supported by agencies such as the World Bank and ADB will include retaining walls, water harvesting systems, culverts, bridges and flood-control structures for major stormwater drains.
Several civic infrastructure projects have also received allocations in the budget. These include INR 25 crore for construction of Kempegowda Bhavan in Hampinagar, INR 10 crore for development of the Kumbalagodu electric crematorium and INR 10 crore towards construction of a 50-bed maternity and children’s hospital in Yeshwanthpur constituency.
The corporation has additionally proposed measures related to parking management, towing infrastructure and multi-level parking systems to address traffic congestion in commercial areas. BWCC stated that EV parking systems and parking fee reforms are expected to generate additional revenue streams for the civic body.
As part of sustainability initiatives, BWCC announced plans to replace over 1.12 lakh sodium streetlights with LED lighting systems under its “Foundation for a Green Future” initiative. The corporation stated that the transition is expected to reduce electricity consumption by nearly 66%. Rooftop solar installations across crematoria and corporation buildings have also been proposed.
