Synopsis

Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) has invited quotations for appointment of an agency to undertake an underground utility survey for the revised alignment of the Mumbai Metro Line 11 extension between Bandra Terminus and Anik Depot. The scope includes Ground Penetration Radar-based mapping of underground pipelines, sewer networks, power cables, telecom ducts and other utility infrastructure along the proposed corridor. The selected consultant will prepare utility maps, AutoCAD drawings, survey reports and stakeholder reference data within a one-month timeline. The survey forms part of planning and pre-construction activities for the proposed Metro Line 11 extension corridor aimed at strengthening Mumbai’s metro connectivity network.

Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) has invited quotations for appointment of an agency to undertake an underground utility survey for the revised alignment of the Mumbai Metro Line 11 extension project between Bandra Terminus and Anik Depot in Mumbai.

According to the tender document issued by MMRCL’s planning department, the selected agency will conduct a detailed underground utility survey using Ground Penetration Radar (GPR) technology across the proposed corridor alignment. The work forms part of pre-construction and planning activities linked to the Metro Line 11 extension project.

The scope of work includes identification, mapping and preparation of reports related to underground infrastructure such as RCC and metallic pipelines, sewer lines, gas pipelines, water pipelines, petroleum and chemical pipelines, high-voltage and low-voltage power cables, telecommunications ducts and other buried or surface utility assets.

MMRCL stated that the appointed consultant will also be required to collect data and reference drawings from stakeholders including the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA), Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), Railways and other agencies connected to the corridor infrastructure.

As part of the assignment, the consultant will prepare survey drawings, site photographs, AutoCAD-based obstacle plans, utility cross-sections and technical reports based on field observations and engineering analysis. The GPR systems proposed for the work must be capable of reaching depths of up to five metres while generating high-resolution underground imaging.

The tender document further specified that the consultant would have to submit a detailed write-up explaining field procedures, grid settings, equipment parameters, formulas used and post-processing methodologies in MS Word format. The final outputs are required in both hardcopy and digital formats, including colour reports and Excel-based measurement data.

MMRCL has fixed a one-month timeline for completion of the assignment from the date of appointment of the agency. According to the payment schedule outlined in the document, payments will be linked to submission of inception reports, draft utility survey reports, final reports and compilation of all survey data.

The financial proposal section of the tender stated that bidders are required to submit lump-sum consultancy fees, inclusive of taxes and applicable GST, for undertaking the survey work related to the revised Metro Line 11 extension alignment.

Mumbai Metro Line 11 is proposed to connect Wadala with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), while the extension corridor between Bandra Terminus and Anik Depot is expected to improve connectivity across eastern and central parts of Mumbai through integration with existing and upcoming metro infrastructure networks.
