Synopsis

The government has announced a large-scale highway development plan worth over INR 34,000 crore for the Delhi-NCR region. The projects aim to improve road connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and upgrade the transport infrastructure across key urban and suburban routes. The proposed works include expressways, ring roads, tunnels, and elevated corridors. According to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, the initiative is part of a broader push to modernise India’s highway network. The developments are expected to improve travel efficiency and strengthen regional connectivity across the national capital region.

The government has announced highway infrastructure projects worth more than INR 34,000 crore for the Delhi-NCR region, aimed at improving road connectivity and reducing heavy traffic congestion across major routes. The plan focuses on upgrading the existing transport network and developing new corridors to support growing traffic demand in the region.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari stated that the upcoming projects will include expressways, ring roads, tunnels, and elevated corridors. These infrastructure additions are planned to streamline traffic movement across Delhi and adjoining NCR cities, where road congestion remains a persistent issue.

The proposed highway network expansion is designed to improve connectivity between key residential, commercial, and industrial zones. It is also expected to reduce travel time across major corridors by offering alternative high-speed routes and bypasses for long-distance and intra-city traffic.

The initiative is part of the government’s ongoing focus on strengthening India’s highway infrastructure, particularly in high-density urban regions. Over the past few years, several highway and expressway projects have already been completed in phases across the NCR, contributing to improved road capacity and smoother traffic flow.

Officials noted that the new projects will further integrate existing highways with upcoming road networks, helping to reduce bottlenecks at critical junctions and improve last-mile connectivity. The development plan also supports long-term urban mobility requirements as vehicular traffic continues to rise in the national capital region.
