Toll collection has commenced on the 129.7-km Meerut–Budaun stretch of the Ganga Expressway following the completion of trial traffic operations on the corridor. The section is being operated by Meerut Budaun Expressway Limited, a special purpose vehicle associated with IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd and IRB Infrastructure Trust. The six-lane greenfield corridor forms part of the larger Ganga Expressway project in Uttar Pradesh and is expected to begin revenue generation for the concessionaire. The project, developed at an estimated cost of INR 6,538 crore, was inaugurated in the past month and is aimed at improving regional road connectivity and supporting industrial and economic activity across multiple districts in the state.
Toll collection has started on the 129.7-km Meerut–Budaun section of the Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh, marking the operational commencement of one of the key stretches within the state’s larger greenfield expressway network project.
According to a regulatory disclosure by IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd, tolling operations on the corridor began from May 17 through Meerut Budaun Expressway Limited, the special purpose vehicle executing the Group 1 package of the project. The company stated that the commencement of tolling follows the receipt of the provisional completion certificate for the expressway section.
The company had earlier initiated trial traffic operations on the corridor from April 30 following the inauguration of the expressway section during the past month.
The Meerut–Budaun corridor forms part of the broader Ganga Expressway project being developed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority. Once fully operational, the expressway is expected to strengthen connectivity across several districts in Uttar Pradesh while supporting industrial, logistics and regional economic activity.
The six-lane greenfield expressway section has been developed at an estimated project cost of around INR 6,538 crore. According to project details, the corridor is designed to improve high-speed road connectivity between western and central parts of Uttar Pradesh while reducing travel time across multiple districts.
The larger Ganga Expressway project connects Meerut and Prayagraj and passes through several districts including Hapur, Bulandshahr, Sambhal, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli and Pratapgarh. The project has been planned as a major infrastructure corridor aimed at improving freight movement, regional accessibility and industrial development potential along the route.
The operationalisation of toll collection is expected to begin revenue generation for the project concessionaire and marks the transition of the corridor from construction phase to commercial operations.
Infrastructure experts have indicated that large expressway corridors such as the Ganga Expressway are likely to influence logistics activity, warehousing demand and real estate development across connected districts due to improved accessibility and reduced transit time.
