• The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved the transfer of land parcels required for the Agra Metro Rail project, enabling further expansion and operational connectivity for the corridor.
• The approval covers the transfer of land from multiple government departments to the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation for metro infrastructure development in Agra.
• The decision is linked to ongoing work on the city’s metro network, which is being developed to improve urban mobility and connectivity across key residential, commercial and tourist zones.
• Authorities said the land allocation would support construction activities, station infrastructure and depot-related requirements for the metro project.
• The Agra Metro project forms part of the state government’s broader urban transport strategy focused on reducing congestion and improving public transit infrastructure in major Uttar Pradesh cities.
The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved the transfer of land required for the Agra Metro Rail project, paving the way for further expansion of metro infrastructure and associated construction activity in Agra. The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the past week as part of the state’s ongoing urban mobility initiatives.
Under the approval, land parcels belonging to various state government departments will be transferred to the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) for development linked to the Agra Metro project. The transferred land is expected to support metro corridor infrastructure, operational facilities and associated connectivity requirements across the city.
The Agra Metro project is being implemented to strengthen public transport connectivity across major residential areas, commercial districts and tourism centres within the city. The metro system is planned as a key urban transport intervention aimed at easing traffic congestion and reducing dependence on road-based transit in one of Uttar Pradesh’s major urban and heritage centres.
Officials indicated that the latest Cabinet approval is intended to facilitate uninterrupted construction and infrastructure execution for the metro network. The land transfer will support station development, track-related infrastructure and depot-linked operational requirements necessary for the next stages of project implementation.
The Agra Metro project is being developed in phases by UPMRC, which is also executing metro rail systems in other cities across Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Kanpur and Meerut. The state government has continued to position metro rail expansion as a central component of its urban infrastructure and mobility agenda.
Construction activity on the Agra Metro has progressed across multiple sections in recent years, including priority corridor operations connecting key areas of the city. The wider network has been planned to improve connectivity between transport hubs, residential catchments and tourism-focused destinations such as the Taj Mahal precinct and surrounding urban zones.
The Cabinet’s approval for land transfer is expected to streamline administrative clearances and reduce procedural delays associated with infrastructure development. Officials stated that coordinated land allocation remains critical for timely execution of metro rail projects, particularly in densely built urban centres where alignment planning and station integration require inter-departmental coordination.
