• BMC has floated an INR 22.16 crore tender for mitigation of high-risk traffic black spots across Mumbai through road safety interventions.
• The proposed works include installation of dividers, thermoplastic road markings, signage boards, pavement markers and junction improvement measures.
• The tender was issued by BMC’s Roads and Traffic Department through an open bidding process, with bids scheduled to open on 9 June.
• BMC stated that the project is part of broader efforts to improve road safety infrastructure, traffic circulation and accident prevention across the city.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a tender valued at approximately INR 22.16 crore for implementation of black spot mitigation and traffic safety improvement works across multiple high-risk junctions within Mumbai city limits. The tender was floated by the Roads and Traffic Department under the Deputy Chief Engineer (Traffic) division.
According to tender documents uploaded on the Maharashtra government’s e-procurement portal on 18 May, the project involves execution of remedial traffic engineering measures at identified accident-prone locations within BMC jurisdiction. The civic body has invited bids through an open tender process.
The scope of work outlined in the tender includes providing and fixing road dividers, installation of signage boards, application of thermoplastic road paint, fixing of two-way pavement markers and construction-related improvements at traffic junctions. The proposed interventions are intended to improve road safety, traffic discipline and vehicular movement across high-risk corridors.
The tender document described the project as mitigation of “Black Spots High Risk Junctions” through various remedial measures aimed at reducing accident risk and improving traffic circulation conditions across the city’s road network.
According to the e-procurement details, the estimated tender value stands at INR 22,16,67,441. The project falls under the “Civil Works – Roads” category and will be executed within BMC limits. The tender requires an earnest money deposit of approximately INR 22.16 lakh from participating bidders.
The bid submission process commenced on 18 May and will remain open until 8 June, while technical bid opening has been scheduled for 9 June. A pre-bid meeting for interested contractors and agencies has been scheduled at the BMC Engineering Hub on Dr E Moses Road in Worli.
Tender records show that the contract has been structured as a percentage-rate works contract with three separate bid covers covering fee submission, technical qualification documents and financial bids. The bid validity period has been fixed at 180 days.
The black spot mitigation programme forms part of broader traffic management and road engineering measures being undertaken by BMC to improve urban mobility and reduce accident risks across Mumbai’s arterial and junction-level road infrastructure. In recent years, the civic body and traffic authorities have increasingly focused on junction redesign, pedestrian safety improvements, signage enhancement and traffic calming interventions across congested urban corridors.
The Roads and Traffic Department has uploaded the tender notice, bill of quantities and supporting project documents on the state e-procurement platform for contractor participation and evaluation.
