Gujarat is planning a major expansion in technology and services sectors with a target to generate more than one lakh high-skilled jobs over the next two years. The proposed jobs are expected to come from industries such as artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, global capability centres (GCCs), robotics, cybersecurity and advanced manufacturing.

The announcement was made during the launch of Million Minds Tech City in Ahmedabad. Speaking at the event, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Gujarat has already built a strong position in sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, pharmaceuticals, ports and green energy. He added that the next phase of growth for the state will depend on strengthening the services sector and building a stronger technology ecosystem.

Shah stated that Ahmedabad has the potential to emerge as a major technology and innovation hub if it develops infrastructure that supports technology companies, startups and research-driven businesses. He noted that the city will need large-scale technology parks and business infrastructure to compete with established markets such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and Gurugram.

He also pointed towards growing opportunities in sectors such as deep technology, quantum computing, autonomous systems, defence technology and space-related industries, which are expected to create demand for skilled professionals in the coming years.

Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi said the state government is working on dedicated policy frameworks to attract GCC investments and international companies. According to him, Gujarat is studying global business ecosystems including Singapore, Dublin and Dubai while shaping future policies for technology and services growth.

Sanghavi added that Gujarat already has sector-specific policies for semiconductors, artificial intelligence, manufacturing and GCC development. The government is now focusing on improving the overall business environment to attract long-term investments in high-growth sectors.

The development comes at a time when several Indian states are competing to attract GCCs and technology investments. India has seen increasing demand for office spaces, technology parks and skilled talent as multinational companies continue expanding their operations across the country.

Million Minds Tech City, being developed by Ganesh Housing in Ahmedabad, is expected to involve an estimated investment of nearly INR 15,000 crore. The project is planned as a large-scale technology-focused development aimed at supporting innovation-led industries and high-skilled employment generation.

Ahmedabad has also witnessed increasing interest from real estate developers and institutional investors in commercial projects, business parks and mixed-use developments in recent years. Improved infrastructure, industrial growth and policy support from the Gujarat government have contributed to rising interest in the city’s commercial real estate market.

The state government’s latest push is also expected to support demand for Grade-A office spaces, technology campuses and urban infrastructure as companies expand beyond traditional technology cities.
