The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation is set to introduce a QR code-based property identification system for residential and commercial properties across the city as part of its digital governance initiative. Under the proposed system, each property will be linked to a unique QR code containing property-related details that can be accessed digitally through scanning. Officials expect the initiative to simplify verification processes, improve property tax administration and help maintain updated municipal records.
The civic administration believes the QR code-based property identification system will help reduce discrepancies in property data and improve monitoring during field inspections and civic surveys. The digital records are also expected to support better coordination among municipal departments handling taxation, planning and public services.
Reports stated that the initiative is aimed at improving transparency and creating a more organised property database within the municipal limits. The system may also help authorities identify unauthorised constructions, update ownership records more efficiently and improve response time during emergency or civic operations.
The development comes as urban local bodies across India are increasingly adopting technology-driven systems for property management and civic administration.
