The Patna Metro depot near the New ISBT at Bairiya is approaching completion, marking a key milestone in the city’s urban transport infrastructure rollout. Spread across over 30 hectares, the facility will function as the primary operations and maintenance hub for the metro network. The depot will support train stabling, repair, testing and control functions for the priority corridor linking Patna Junction to ISBT. Its completion aligns with ongoing progress across the metro project, where sections are already operational and further expansion is underway. The development is expected to strengthen system readiness and improve execution timelines for future phases.
The depot for the Patna Metro project near the New Patliputra Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at Bairiya is nearing completion, providing a critical boost to the operational infrastructure required for the city’s expanding rapid transit network, according to recent project updates.
The facility, spread across approximately 30–32 hectares, is being developed as the central hub for train operations, maintenance, and control functions. It will house key infrastructure including stabling lines, inspection bays, workshops, testing tracks and an operations control centre, forming the backbone of the metro’s day-to-day functioning.
The depot is strategically located along Corridor II of the Patna Metro, which connects Patna Junction to ISBT and forms a major part of the city’s priority transit stretch. This corridor has already seen partial commissioning, with a limited section operational since earlier phases, while additional stations and infrastructure are at advanced stages of completion.
Officials have indicated that the depot will not only serve as a parking and maintenance facility for metro trains but will also act as the command centre for monitoring and managing operations across the network. Its readiness is considered essential for scaling up services as more sections of the metro become operational.
The Patna Metro project, being implemented in phases, spans two corridors covering over 30 km, with a mix of elevated and underground sections. The priority corridor linking ISBT to key urban nodes has been central to the initial rollout, aimed at easing congestion in high-traffic zones and improving intra-city connectivity.
The depot’s near-completion also aligns with broader progress across the project, where station construction, trial runs, and system installations are being executed in parallel. Earlier updates have indicated that a significant portion of civil and systems work across key stretches is already completed, with phased operationalisation planned.
Once fully operational, the depot will enable efficient fleet management, reduce turnaround time for maintenance, and support higher service frequency as the network expands. It is expected to play a central role in ensuring operational reliability and safety standards for the metro system.
The development marks a significant step in strengthening Patna’s urban transport infrastructure, with the metro project positioned to become a key component of the city’s long-term mobility framework.
