The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, in collaboration with TBS Education, will host the ninth International Conference on the Future of Aviation and Aerospace (FOAA). The event will bring together industry leaders, policymakers and academicians to discuss sector growth, infrastructure needs, manufacturing and emerging technologies. As part of a broader executive education initiative, the conference aims to address talent gaps and strengthen industry-academia collaboration. With participation from key aviation stakeholders, discussions are expected to focus on long-term sector development and India's growing role in global aviation.
The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, in partnership with TBS Education, will host the ninth edition of the International Conference on the Future of Aviation and Aerospace (FOAA) on April 18. The conference will bring together global industry leaders, academicians and policymakers to discuss the current trends and future direction of the aviation and aerospace sectors.
The event is part of the General Management Programme for Aviation and Aerospace Executives, a joint initiative between the two institutions. The programme has been designed to address the increasing demand for skilled managerial talent in aviation, especially as the sector continues to expand with rising passenger traffic, fleet additions and airport infrastructure development across India.
Organisers stated that the conference is intended to create a platform where industry and academia can exchange ideas and identify practical solutions for sector challenges. The inaugural address will be delivered by Annett Baessler, Deputy Consul General at the German Consulate General in Bengaluru. Opening remarks will be delivered by Professor G Shainesh and Professor S Raghunath from IIM Bangalore, along with Professor Christophe Benaroya from TBS Education.
The conference will include multiple panel discussions covering key areas of the aviation ecosystem. A session on market potential in India's aviation and aerospace sector will feature Belson Coutinho from Akasa Air, Vasudevan S from ICF and Sunil Bhaskaran from Air India Aviation Academy. The discussion will be chaired by Professor Shainesh and is expected to examine growth opportunities, demand trends and competitive positioning of Indian aviation.
Another session will focus on design and manufacturing for the global aerospace market. Industry experts, including Srinivasan Dwarakanath from the Aerospace India Association, will discuss India's role in global supply chains and the scope for increasing domestic manufacturing capabilities. The conference will also include discussions on the Make in India initiative, with insights from Kota Harinarayana, associated with the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft programme, and Biju Nanukuttan from AeroEdison.
Airport infrastructure and capacity development will form another key part of the discussions. Amber Dubey from Adani Airport Holdings Ltd, along with representatives from IndiGo and TBS Education, will take part in a session focusing on infrastructure expansion, operational efficiency and the need for coordinated planning as passenger volumes continue to grow. These discussions are expected to highlight challenges related to capacity constraints and the importance of timely project execution.
The role of technology in aviation will also be addressed, particularly in areas such as artificial intelligence and data analytics. The final session will include speakers from GE Aerospace and Fortinet, who will discuss how technology is being used to improve operations, safety and decision-making in aviation and aerospace.
The conference will conclude with a networking session for alumni of the executive programme, providing an opportunity for participants and industry professionals to exchange insights and build connections. Such engagements are seen as important for strengthening collaboration between academia and industry.
India's aviation sector has seen steady growth over the past few years, supported by government initiatives such as regional connectivity schemes, increasing private sector participation and continued investment in airport infrastructure. At the same time, the sector is facing challenges related to capacity, costs and the need for skilled talent. Platforms like FOAA are aimed at addressing these issues by bringing together key stakeholders for focused discussions.
