State-owned NTPC stated that its subsidiary NGEL, through its group firm, would commence commercial power supply of 150 MW from a 300 MW solar project in Rajasthan in the coming days. The project is owned by Project Sixteen Renewable Power Private Ltd, a step-down subsidiary of ONGC NTPC Green Private Ltd. Following the commissioning, NGEL group capacity is expected to rise to 10,276.40 MW, while NTPC's overall installed capacity will reach 89,528 MW, with commercial capacity at 88,448 MW. The development reflects ongoing capacity additions within NTPC's renewable energy portfolio.
State-run power producer NTPC announced that its subsidiary NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL), through a group company, would begin commercial electricity supply of 150 MW from a 300 MW solar power project in Rajasthan in the coming days, marking a phased commissioning of the project and adding to the company's renewable energy capacity.
The solar project, located in Rajasthan, is being developed by Project Sixteen Renewable Power Private Ltd, which operates as a step-down subsidiary of ONGC NTPC Green Private Ltd, a joint venture between NTPC and ONGC focused on expanding green energy assets across India. The initial 150 MW capacity is being brought online as part of a staggered operational rollout of the total 300 MW project.
NTPC indicated in its regulatory filing that with the commencement of this capacity, the total installed capacity of the NGEL group would increase to 10,276.40 MW. The addition forms part of the company's broader renewable energy expansion strategy, which includes solar, wind, and hybrid projects across multiple states.
At the group level, NTPC stated that the overall installed capacity would rise to 89,528 MW following this development. The company also reported that its commercial capacity would stand at 88,448 MW, reflecting the portion of total capacity currently operational and supplying electricity to the grid.
The Rajasthan project contributes to the ongoing scaling up of renewable power infrastructure in regions with high solar irradiation, where utility-scale projects continue to be developed under central and state-led initiatives. The involvement of ONGC NTPC Green Private Ltd highlights the collaborative approach being adopted by public sector entities to accelerate clean energy deployment.
The phased commissioning of the solar project aligns with NTPC's ongoing efforts to increase the share of non-fossil fuel-based capacity within its overall energy mix, as the company continues to add renewable assets alongside its conventional generation portfolio.
