Uttar Pradesh is planning an expansive Olympic Park near the upcoming Noida International Airport, a move that aligns with India's ambitions to host major sporting events like the 2036 Olympics. The 1,100-acre park includes an Olympic City with 29 sports arenas and an Olympic Village with 5,000 housing units, designed primarily for athletes and sports-related personnel. This development also envisions sports clubs, training centres, convention spaces, malls, and theme parks. While the project may not be ready for 2036, it aims to become a world-class sports facility for future international events, underlining India's growing presence in sports.
The Uttar Pradesh government is outlining a grand vision for an Olympic Park near the upcoming Noida International Airport. This plan aligns with India's aspirations to have a more prominent global presence in sports and to possibly host the 2036 Olympic Games. Spanning nearly 1,100 acres in Sector 22 of the Yamuna Expressway, the Olympic Park comprises two key components: the Olympic City, featuring 29 arenas for various sports, and an Olympic Village spread across 130 acres with 5,000 housing units, primarily 3 and 4-BHK flats. Additionally, sports clubs, training centres, malls, theme parks, and convention centres are part of the proposal.
This ambitious project reflects India's infrastructure ambitions and its desire to host major international sporting events. While it may not be ready for the 2036 Olympics, the Olympic Park is planned to be world-class. Arun Vir Singh, CEO of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority, stated that the park's planning anticipates it becoming a primary sports arena for future international events beyond 2041.
To ensure successful development, the project will be executed in a sequential and logical manner over several years. While the mode of construction is yet to be finalized, a public-private partnership (PPP) model appears to be the most suitable for building this international sports facility.
This project is part of a broader development plan cantered around the Noida International Airport in the Yamuna Expressway region. Other significant initiatives include the creation of a Film City and the establishment of industrial manufacturing clusters such as toy, apparel, and medical device parks. These endeavours aim to propel Uttar Pradesh onto the global stage in various sectors.
