Synopsis

The Indore Municipal Corporation intensified its action against illegal colonies by demolishing 16 unauthorised row houses in Anjani Nagar and Jagdish Nagar. The constructions were carried out without approvals and included illegal internal infrastructure such as roads and drainage. The civic body also raised concerns over fraudulent sales, where such properties are sold to unaware buyers. The action is part of a wider effort to control unplanned growth, as several unauthorised colonies in the city continue to face scrutiny due to lack of clear titles and planning violations.

The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) carried out a demolition drive in parts of the city, removing 16 unauthorised row houses in Anjani Nagar and Jagdish Nagar as part of its continued action against illegal colonies. The structures were built without required permissions and did not comply with planning norms.

The action was concentrated in Zone 4. In Anjani Nagar, four row houses constructed near a drainage line were demolished completely. In Jagdish Nagar in the Banganga area, 12 row houses were razed. Officials noted that some of these houses were close to completion, while others were still under construction, indicating ongoing unauthorised activity in the area.

Apart from the houses, the civic body also removed illegal infrastructure developed within these colonies. This included internal roads and drainage systems that had been laid without land diversion approval or layout permissions. Authorities found that a large portion of land had been developed without legal sanction, which led to immediate enforcement action.

The demolition was carried out with a team of over 70 municipal staff using machinery such as earth movers. The operation was completed smoothly and no resistance was reported, mainly because the structures were unoccupied at the time of the drive.

Officials indicated that the illegal development in Jagdish Nagar was linked to a local developer who had been carrying out construction activities rapidly, sometimes during night hours to avoid detection. It was observed that such units are often sold to buyers without proper disclosure of approvals, raising the risk of financial loss and legal complications for purchasers.

The civic administration has instructed its teams to maintain strict monitoring of such unauthorised developments. Citizens have been advised to verify approvals, land titles and building permissions before purchasing property to avoid getting involved in illegal transactions.

This action is part of a larger pattern of enforcement in Indore, where authorities have been taking steps against illegal plotting and construction. In previous instances, cases have been registered against multiple developers for similar violations, showing a continued push to regulate unplanned expansion.

At the same time, the city is dealing with the challenge of regularising a large number of unauthorised colonies. Many of these developments are stuck due to issues such as missing approvals, land-use disputes and non-compliance with planning norms, making legalisation difficult despite demand from residents.
