The Maharashtra government is implementing infrastructure projects worth approximately INR 6,500 crore across Gadchiroli district, covering over 140 initiatives spanning roads, irrigation, healthcare, and urban development. Reported in the past week, the programme is aimed at improving connectivity, strengthening public infrastructure, and supporting economic activity in a region historically affected by limited development. In addition to road projects, irrigation infrastructure forms a key component of the investment. Schemes such as the Kotgal barrage and the Dongargaon Thanegaon project are being developed to expand irrigation coverage and support agricultural activity across several thousand hectares. These interventions are expected to improve water availability and enhance productivity in a district where agriculture remains a primary livelihood source.
Healthcare infrastructure is also being expanded under the programme, with new facilities and upgrades to existing institutions aimed at improving access to medical services in rural and tribal areas. The expansion of healthcare capacity is being undertaken alongside improvements in other social infrastructure, reflecting a multi-sectoral approach to development.
Urban development projects form another component of the initiative, focusing on strengthening civic infrastructure and services within the district. Gadchiroli, historically affected by limited infrastructure and security challenges, has been identified by the state government as a priority region for development. Parallel policy initiatives have focused on positioning the district as an industrial and mining hub, supported by investments in transport infrastructure such as road networks and proposed expressway linkages.
