The company’s data centre portfolio has expanded in recent years as global tech firms increase investments in scalable and sustainable facilities.
Skanska AB has announced that it will undertake the construction of a data centre expansion in Espoo, Finland, with a contract value of approximately EUR 100 million, or about SEK 1.1 billion.
The company shared that the project involves expanding an existing data centre facility, although specific details about the client and timeline have not been disclosed. Espoo, part of the Helsinki metropolitan region, has emerged as a key location for data centre investments due to its stable energy supply and favourable climate conditions, which support efficient cooling operations.
Skanska has previously delivered several data centre projects across the Nordic region, where demand has increased steadily with the rise of cloud computing, artificial intelligence workloads, and digital transformation initiatives. The company has also focused on integrating sustainable construction practices, including energy-efficient designs and reduced carbon emissions, which are becoming important considerations for data centre operators.
In recent years, Finland has attracted significant interest from global technology companies due to its renewable energy capacity and strong digital infrastructure. This has led to a growing pipeline of data centre developments, particularly in cities like Espoo and Helsinki.
The latest contract adds to Skanska’s order book in Europe and reflects continued investment in digital infrastructure across the region. Data centres are increasingly seen as critical real estate assets, supporting both enterprise operations and consumer-driven digital services.
