Tauron Polska Energia has received approval to build a new cogeneration plant in Lagisza, Bedzin, while its subsidiary Tauron Ciepo secured support for four units in a recent cogeneration premium auction. The total capacity of these units exceeds 100 MW. The company expects to generate around PLN 2.5 billion in revenue from the premium mechanism over the support period. Winning bids in the auction were priced between PLN 249.92 per MWh and PLN 274.77 per MWh. The development aligns with Tauron’s ongoing efforts to strengthen efficient heat and power generation.
Tauron Polska Energia SA’s board has approved the construction of a new cogeneration plant with an electrical capacity of 100 MWe and thermal capacity ranging between 120 and 140 MWt in Lagisza, located in Bdzin, Poland. At the same time, the company’s subsidiary Tauron Ciepo has secured a win in a cogeneration premium auction for four units with a combined capacity exceeding 100 MW. This auction-based support mechanism is designed to encourage high-efficiency cogeneration projects by offering financial incentives over a defined support period.
The company estimates that revenue generated from the cogeneration premium will reach approximately PLN 2.5 billion during the support tenure. The successful bids submitted by Tauron Cieplo in the auction were priced within a range of PLN 249.92 per MWh to PLN 274.77 per MWh, reflecting the expected cost and efficiency of the proposed units.
Cogeneration, also known as combined heat and power, allows simultaneous production of electricity and useful heat, making it more efficient than conventional generation methods. Poland has been actively promoting such systems to modernise its energy infrastructure and reduce emissions, especially in district heating networks.
Tauron has been gradually shifting its energy mix toward more efficient and lower-emission technologies, with cogeneration playing a key role in this transition. The Lagisza project adds to its existing assets and supports long-term energy reliability in the region.
