Noida International Airport is set to commence commercial flight operations from mid-June, establishing a new aviation gateway for the National Capital Region and western Uttar Pradesh. Announced in the past week, the launch will see initial services led by IndiGo, with other airlines expected to follow. The greenfield airport, developed as a large-scale infrastructure project, is designed to handle passenger and cargo traffic while easing congestion at Delhi’s existing airport. The operationalisation is expected to improve regional connectivity, support logistics growth, and drive real estate and economic activity across the Yamuna Expressway corridor.
Noida International Airport will commence commercial flight operations from mid-June, with authorities confirming in the past week that scheduled passenger services will begin as the airport transitions into its operational phase in Gautam Buddha Nagar district, Uttar Pradesh. Advertisement
The airport operator indicated that the launch follows the completion of key regulatory requirements, including approval of the Aerodrome Security Programme by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, confirming readiness of operational systems and safety protocols. The project has also been inaugurated by the Prime Minister, enabling the start of commercial services.
Initial operations will be led by IndiGo, which will operate the inaugural flight, marking the beginning of scheduled passenger services from the facility. Other carriers, including Air India Express and Akasa Air, are expected to commence operations shortly thereafter, although route networks and schedules are yet to be finalised.
The airport has been developed as a greenfield aviation hub aimed at strengthening connectivity across the National Capital Region and northern India. In its first phase, the facility includes a passenger terminal and runway infrastructure with an annual handling capacity of around 12 million passengers, along with provisions for cargo operations.
Officials indicated that the operationalisation of the airport is expected to reduce congestion at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport by offering an alternative gateway for both domestic and international travel. The project is also positioned to improve connectivity for western Uttar Pradesh and adjoining regions, supporting passenger movement as well as logistics and cargo flows.
The development forms part of a broader infrastructure push in the Yamuna Expressway corridor, where the airport is expected to anchor industrial, logistics and real estate activity. Planning authorities have been aligning connectivity infrastructure, including road and expressway networks, to integrate the airport with surrounding urban centres.
The commencement of flight operations marks a significant milestone in the project’s development cycle, transitioning it from construction to operational status. Authorities indicated that further expansion phases will be undertaken over time to enhance capacity and accommodate growing air traffic demand.
With commercial services set to begin, the airport is expected to play a central role in shaping regional mobility patterns and supporting economic activity across the NCR and neighbouring states, while reinforcing the integration of aviation infrastructure with urban development planning.
