Synopsis

Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited (RMRCL) is set to issue the work order for Jaipur Metro Phase II shortly, marking a key shift from approvals to execution. The project, approved by the Union Cabinet, has an estimated cost of INR 13,037.66 crore and will cover around 41 km with 36 stations. Civil tenders have already seen strong participation, and initial packages are in advanced stages. The corridor is expected to improve connectivity across key industrial, residential, and commercial areas while supporting long-term urban growth and easing traffic pressure in the city.

Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited (RMRCL) is likely to issue the work order for Jaipur Metro Phase II soon, indicating that the project is moving ahead after completing major approvals and tendering processes. This step will formally mark the beginning of on-ground execution for one of the city’s largest urban transport projects.

The metro expansion received approval from the Union Cabinet in the recent past, with a total estimated project cost of INR 13,037.66 crore. Phase II will span about 41 km and include 36 stations, forming a key north–south corridor connecting Prahladpura to Todi Mod. The alignment has been planned to pass through important areas including Sitapura Industrial Area, Vishwakarma Industrial Area, Tonk Road, Jaipur Airport, and major residential pockets.

The project is designed to integrate with the existing Jaipur Metro Phase I network through interchange points, allowing smoother movement across the city. This integration is expected to improve last-mile connectivity and create a more connected public transport system.

Before reaching this stage, RMRCL had floated tenders for multiple civil construction packages. One of the key packages, valued at around INR 1,145.14 crore, includes the construction of elevated viaducts and several stations such as Prahladpura, Manpura, Sitapura, and Haldighati Gate. The execution timeline for this package is estimated at around 34 months.

The bidding process for initial civil works saw strong interest from infrastructure companies. Reports indicated that around 13 firms participated in one of the major tenders, reflecting competitive intensity and industry confidence in the project. Evaluation of bids and award processes have been progressing, leading to the expected issuance of the work order.

The Jaipur Metro Phase II project has been under planning for several years. The Detailed Project Report had been cleared earlier, followed by multiple levels of government approvals before receiving the final cabinet nod. RMRCL, a joint venture between the central and Rajasthan state governments, is responsible for implementing the project.

The corridor will include both elevated and underground sections, with underground stretches planned in areas near the airport and densely developed zones. Once completed, the metro line is expected to reduce travel time significantly across the city and provide a reliable alternative to road-based transport.

With the work order expected shortly, construction activity is likely to begin in phases across different sections. Multiple contractors may work simultaneously to ensure faster execution and timely completion of the project.
