Marriott International has introduced its 185-key Le Meridien Hotels & Resorts property in Surat, Gujarat, marking the brand’s first presence in the city widely known for its diamond trading and industrial activity. The company stated that the expansion reflects its continued focus on strengthening its portfolio in key urban markets across India.

Marriott International’s Senior Vice President for South Asia, Kiran Andicot, conveyed that India remains a significant growth market for the group. He added that the entry of Le Meridien into Surat represents a strong opportunity in a city with growing potential. He further highlighted that Surat’s cultural background, food scene, and position as a regional commercial hub align with the brand’s approach of offering travellers experiences rooted in local discovery and design-led hospitality.

Le Meridien, which already operates in multiple Indian cities under Marriott’s portfolio, is positioned as a brand that focuses on culture, art, and destination-led experiences. Its expansion into Surat adds to Marriott’s wider strategy of increasing presence in emerging and fast-growing urban centres.

In a separate development, IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a management agreement with Yash Hotels & Resorts LLP for the development of a 150-key Holiday Inn Resort in Alwar, Rajasthan. The property is expected to open in the first quarter of 2030 and will mark IHG’s entry into the city.
