Synopsis

SoftTech Engineers, along with the National Highway Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NHEV) initiative, has introduced a GIS-enabled single-window system to streamline approvals for EV infrastructure on national highways. The platform integrates site selection, compliance checks, and allotment into one interface, reducing delays caused by fragmented processes. It is designed for businesses, landowners, and service providers, with features like real-time tracking and data-backed location analysis. The move is expected to support faster rollout of EV charging and highway amenities across India.

SoftTech Engineers Ltd has partnered with the National Highway Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NHEV) initiative to launch a GIS-enabled single-window approval system for setting up electric vehicle infrastructure and related facilities along India’s national highways. The platform has been introduced to address delays caused by multiple approvals required from different authorities.

The system brings together key stages such as site identification, technical feasibility checks, compliance verification, and final allotment under one digital interface. This reduces the need for applicants to approach multiple departments separately, which has been a common challenge in highway infrastructure development, especially in the EV segment.

The platform is aimed at a wide range of users, including companies planning EV charging stations, logistics and fleet operators, hospitality players developing highway amenities, and landowners offering roadside land parcels. By allowing all stakeholders to work through a single system, the process is expected to become more structured and time-efficient.

A GIS-based layer has been integrated into the system, enabling users to assess locations based on highway data, traffic movement, and nearby infrastructure before applying. This helps in selecting viable sites and avoids rejections or delays due to unsuitable proposals. It also supports better planning of EV charging networks across key corridors.

Applicants can track their submissions in real time, which improves transparency and reduces uncertainty during the approval cycle. The platform also creates a digital record of applications, making the process more accountable compared to traditional manual systems.

SoftTech’s leadership indicated that the platform has been developed to act as a central system for EV highway infrastructure approvals. The company’s CEO Vijay Gupta stated that the objective was to bring all stakeholders and approval stages onto a unified platform, making the process more transparent and efficient while supporting the growth of clean mobility infrastructure.

The initiative builds on ongoing efforts to develop EV-ready highway corridors across India. NHEV has been working on deploying charging infrastructure, battery swapping networks, and related facilities to support long-distance EV travel. However, execution has often been slowed by approval-related challenges and coordination gaps between agencies.

By introducing a single-window mechanism, the collaboration aims to reduce these bottlenecks and improve ease of doing business for private and institutional players. The platform also aligns with the broader push towards digitisation in infrastructure approvals, where government and private systems are moving towards integrated digital workflows.
