The Uttar Pradesh government is planning to develop the Ganga Expressway as an integrated manufacturing and logistics corridor, with investment proposals worth around INR 46,660 crore across 12 districts. The initiative involves setting up industrial nodes along the 594-km expressway connecting Meerut to Prayagraj. Spread across more than 6,500 acres, the planned clusters aim to boost manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics activity while reducing regional disparities. The project is expected to generate employment, improve freight movement, and support industrial expansion, positioning the expressway as a key economic growth spine in the state.
The Uttar Pradesh government is advancing plans to develop the Ganga Expressway corridor into a large-scale manufacturing and logistics hub, with proposed investments of approximately INR 46,660 crore across 12 districts, according to official data released in the past week.
The initiative is being implemented through the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), which is developing an integrated manufacturing and logistics cluster (IMLC) model along the expressway. The 594-km greenfield corridor connects Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh to Prayagraj in the eastern part of the state, forming one of the longest expressways in India.
Under the plan, 12 industrial nodes are being established along the expressway, covering a total of around 6,507 acres of land. These nodes have been strategically distributed across districts including Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj.
Authorities indicated that the corridor has already attracted strong investor interest, with close to 987 investment proposals received across sectors such as manufacturing, warehousing, logistics, e-commerce supply chains, and agro-processing. The cumulative investment potential from these proposals is estimated at around INR 46,660 crore.
The industrial nodes are being designed based on regional advantages and sector-specific potential, with the objective of promoting integrated development across manufacturing and logistics activities. The approach is expected to enhance supply chain efficiency by reducing transportation time and costs for goods movement across the state.
Officials stated that the project is intended to reduce regional imbalances by bringing industrial activity to districts that have traditionally seen limited large-scale investment. Areas such as Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, and Pratapgarh are expected to witness increased economic activity and employment generation as the corridor develops.
The expressway itself is expected to significantly improve connectivity across Uttar Pradesh, reducing travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj and linking multiple industrial and urban centres. This improved connectivity is expected to support both passenger and freight movement, further strengthening the viability of the industrial clusters.
The government’s strategy reflects a broader shift towards integrating infrastructure development with industrial planning, where expressways are being positioned not only as transport corridors but also as economic growth zones. By aligning road infrastructure with industrial clusters, the state aims to attract private investment and create a network of manufacturing hubs along key transport routes.
The Ganga Expressway corridor is thus expected to function as a multi-sector development spine, supporting industrial expansion, logistics efficiency, and regional economic growth across Uttar Pradesh.
