Synopsis

Noida International Airport has received approval for its Aerodrome Security Programme from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, marking a key regulatory milestone towards the commencement of flight operations. The greenfield airport project in Jewar is now working with airlines and stakeholders to finalise a launch timeline. The approval confirms that required safety and security frameworks are in place, following recent management changes. The development is significant for the National Capital Region, where the airport is expected to support capacity expansion and regional connectivity.

Noida International Airport has received approval for its Aerodrome Security Programme from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, marking a critical step towards the start of commercial flight operations at the greenfield airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh.

The approval, granted recently, confirms that the airport’s security framework, procedures, and operational protocols are aligned with regulatory requirements. The Aerodrome Security Programme outlines standard operating procedures related to aircraft movement, ground handling, emergency response, and coordination among aviation stakeholders, aimed at ensuring operational safety.

Airport officials indicated that, following this clearance, discussions are underway with airlines and associated partners to determine a mutually agreed timeline for the commencement of flight operations. The focus remains on ensuring readiness across systems, personnel, and operational processes before launch.

The development follows recent changes in the airport’s leadership. The project had replaced its expatriate chief executive, Christoph Schnellmann, amid regulatory considerations, with Nitu Samra appointed as interim chief executive.

The Aerodrome Security Programme approval is a mandatory requirement for airport operations, establishing the framework for maintaining safety standards across all aspects of aviation activity. It is considered a prerequisite for initiating commercial services, alongside other operational clearances.

The airport, located in Gautam Buddh Nagar district, is being developed as a major aviation infrastructure project aimed at enhancing connectivity in the National Capital Region. It is expected to support passenger and cargo traffic while reducing congestion at Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The project was inaugurated recently by Narendra Modi as part of the government’s broader infrastructure development programme.

Once operational, the airport is expected to function as a key aviation hub, contributing to regional economic activity and improving connectivity across northern India. Authorities have indicated that final operational timelines will be announced after coordination with airlines and completion of remaining preparatory requirements.
