Synopsis

Yatra Online Limited has upgraded its AI-powered travel assistant, DIYA, to support end-to-end planning and booking of multi-city and multi-country itineraries within a single chat interface. Announced recently, the feature allows users to create and book complex travel plans across destinations without switching platforms. The assistant integrates flights, hotel stays, and local experiences into a single itinerary while supporting multiple journey formats. Powered by advanced artificial intelligence models and available across web and mobile platforms, the upgrade reflects a broader shift towards automated, conversational travel planning, reducing manual effort and streamlining the booking process for increasingly complex travel requirements.

Yatra Online Limited announced recently that it has enhanced its AI-powered travel assistant, DIYA, to enable end-to-end planning and booking of multi-city travel itineraries across destinations and countries within a single conversational interface, marking an expansion of its digital travel services.

The upgraded assistant allows travellers to plan complex journeys by entering requirements in natural language, after which the system generates a comprehensive itinerary covering flights, accommodation, and curated experiences across multiple locations. The feature is available on Yatra’s consumer platforms, including web and mobile applications, and is designed to eliminate the need for users to switch between different booking platforms.

According to the company, the assistant can accommodate a range of travel structures, including one-way trips across cities, return journeys from different destinations, and multi-country travel loops. It recommends flights and hotels for each destination while integrating activity suggestions, enabling users to review and finalise bookings within a single interface.

The development builds on DIYA’s earlier capabilities introduced following its launch in the past year, where it functioned as a generative AI-based assistant supporting travel planning, bookings, and post-booking services through chat and voice interfaces in multiple languages. The platform is powered by advanced artificial intelligence models, including Google’s Gemini, and uses natural language processing and real-time data integration to deliver personalised recommendations.

Company leadership indicated that the upgrade addresses inefficiencies in traditional online travel planning, where users often navigate multiple platforms to assemble itineraries. The new functionality is intended to streamline this process by consolidating discovery, planning, and booking into a unified workflow.

Technical leadership at the company stated that the assistant applies semantic understanding and advanced reasoning capabilities to interpret traveller intent and generate tailored itineraries. Users can iteratively refine travel plans within the conversation until they align with specific preferences, including duration, destinations, and budget considerations.

The company further noted that the system integrates real-time inventory across flights, hotels, and experiences, enabling immediate booking of generated itineraries. This reduces the time required for travel planning from extended periods to a significantly shorter duration, particularly for multi-destination trips that typically involve higher complexity.

The upgrade forms part of Yatra’s broader focus on expanding AI-led consumer services, with continued investment in automation and conversational interfaces. By integrating planning and execution within a single system, the company aims to simplify travel booking processes while supporting increasingly complex travel requirements among users.
