The Nashik Municipal Corporation has initiated action to cancel 26 tentative layouts as part of an ongoing probe into alleged violations linked to a MHADA housing irregularities case. The move follows findings by the land records department and investigations into non-compliance with mandatory Economically Weaker Section (EWS) housing norms. The action forms part of a broader crackdown involving police cases against developers and scrutiny of multiple housing projects. Authorities indicated that the cancellations are intended to address discrepancies in layout approvals and ensure adherence to planning and housing regulations.
The Nashik Municipal Corporation has begun the process of cancelling 26 tentative layouts as part of enforcement action linked to an ongoing probe into alleged irregularities in housing projects associated with Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority schemes.
The decision was taken recently following findings by the land records department, which reported that several layout maps were not reflected in official base records. Civic officials indicated that the cancellation process has been initiated and a consolidated order is expected to be issued after completing procedural formalities.
The action forms part of a wider investigation into alleged violations of housing norms, particularly those related to mandatory reservation of 20 per cent units for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in projects exceeding 4,000 sq m. Authorities have conducted hearings involving over 150 landowners and developers in connection with these violations.
Police cases have also been registered against multiple stakeholders, including developers and landowners, following complaints that certain projects bypassed EWS requirements through irregular land subdivision or documentation practices. The probe has been supported by a Special Investigation Team constituted by the state government to examine the extent of violations and recommend further action.
Officials stated that discrepancies identified during the investigation included absence of approved layout records and inconsistencies in land documentation. These findings prompted the civic body to initiate corrective measures, including cancellation of tentative approvals granted earlier.
The enforcement measures are expected to impact projects where compliance with planning norms and housing policies has been found to be inadequate. Authorities have indicated that the objective is to ensure that housing developments adhere to regulatory requirements, particularly those linked to affordable housing obligations under MHADA policies.
The move reflects increased scrutiny of land approvals and layout permissions in the city, amid concerns over misuse of regulatory provisions in residential developments. Civic authorities have also indicated that further action may follow based on findings of the ongoing investigation.
The developments highlight tightening regulatory oversight in urban planning processes, particularly in cases involving affordable housing mandates, where compliance is being closely monitored to prevent deviations from prescribed norms.
