The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has issued an advisory for commuters on the Blue and Green Lines due to ongoing escalator maintenance at select stations. The work is part of a planned effort to upgrade ageing infrastructure and ensure safety and smoother operations. Passengers may face temporary inconvenience, especially during peak hours, and have been advised to use stairs or lifts and plan travel accordingly. The maintenance aligns with DMRC’s broader upgrade programme, which includes refurbishment of trains and replacement of older equipment across high-footfall corridors.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has informed commuters travelling on the Blue and Green Lines about possible inconvenience due to escalator maintenance work at some stations. The advisory highlights that certain escalators have been taken out of service as part of scheduled upkeep and refurbishment activities.
The corporation indicated that the maintenance is being carried out in phases, and only a limited number of escalators are affected at a time. However, given the high passenger movement at these stations, especially during peak hours, this may lead to slower movement within station premises. Commuters have been advised to use alternative options such as staircases and lifts and keep additional travel time in mind.
DMRC stated that the work is necessary to ensure safety and improve the long-term performance of station infrastructure. Many of these escalators were installed during earlier phases of the metro network and are now undergoing mid-life refurbishment or replacement to avoid breakdowns and ensure reliability.
The Blue Line, connecting Dwarka Sector 21 to Noida Electronic City and Vaishali, is one of the busiest corridors in the network and handles a large share of daily ridership across Delhi-NCR. The Green Line also serves important residential and industrial areas, making uninterrupted access within stations important for regular commuters.
In the past few weeks, DMRC has been focusing on upgrading older assets across the network. This includes refurbishment of trains operating on the Blue Line to bring them in line with current safety and operational standards. Alongside this, the corporation has been working on replacing and overhauling escalators that have completed around 15 years of service.
Officials have indicated that such maintenance is part of preventive planning to reduce sudden equipment failures and improve commuter experience over time. While the work may cause short-term inconvenience, it is aimed at ensuring smoother and safer operations across the metro network.
