Railway authorities have stepped up restoration work on an ageing bridge near Buxar station to improve safety and maintain smooth train operations. The structure had been operating under speed restrictions due to its condition. Using a planned mega block, officials deployed additional manpower and machinery to fast-track critical repairs. The work includes structural strengthening, girder replacement, and continuous site monitoring. With rising passenger and freight traffic on this route, the restoration is being carried out on priority to reduce risks and ensure reliable operations with minimal disruption.
Railway authorities have increased the pace of restoration work on an old bridge located near the eastern end of Buxar railway station, with a focus on ensuring safe train movement and avoiding operational disruptions. The bridge had been identified as structurally weak, leading to precautionary restrictions on train speeds in recent months.
Officials stated that trains were earlier allowed to pass over the bridge at reduced speeds as a safety measure. A railway official indicated that ensuring passenger safety remained the primary concern, and therefore strengthening work was taken up on priority to address the issue without delay.
To carry out the repairs efficiently, the railways used a scheduled mega block on the route, which allowed engineers to work without regular train movement. During this period, a large workforce, including more than two dozen railway officials, was deployed at the site. The teams continued work even under challenging weather conditions to maintain progress.
The restoration work includes critical activities such as replacement of damaged girders, strengthening of the bridge structure, and reinforcement of key components. Temporary suspension of train operations for a few hours was also implemented on select occasions to enable these activities, particularly where precision work was required.
Modern machinery, including cranes and specialised equipment, has been used to speed up execution and ensure quality. Senior railway officials and technical teams have been conducting regular inspections at the site to monitor progress and ensure that safety standards are strictly followed throughout the process.
The bridge is an important part of the rail network in the region, supporting both passenger and freight trains and connecting key routes across Bihar. With rail traffic increasing steadily over time, the pressure on such ageing infrastructure has grown, making timely upgrades necessary. In parallel, infrastructure improvements such as additional platforms at Buxar station and nearby connectivity projects have further highlighted the need to strengthen existing assets.
Authorities are working to complete the restoration at the earliest so that normal train speeds can be resumed. Efforts are also being made to minimise inconvenience to passengers while ensuring that all safety checks are completed before full operations are restored.
