Work has started on a key 104.25 km stretch of the NH-43 corridor with an investment of INR 3,147 crore, forming part of the larger Raipur–Dhanbad economic corridor. The project is expected to improve road connectivity between Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, especially across industrial and mineral-rich regions. It includes multiple bridges, flyovers and underpasses to ensure smoother and safer travel. Once completed, the corridor is likely to reduce logistics costs, cut travel time and support local economic activity across smaller towns and industrial clusters.
Construction has commenced on an important section of the NH-43 corridor in Chhattisgarh, with a total project cost of INR 3,147 crore. The development covers the 104.25 km Pathalgaon–Kunkuri stretch up to the Chhattisgarh–Jharkhand border and is part of the larger 627 km Raipur–Dhanbad economic corridor.
A substantial portion of this corridor, about 384 km, falls within Chhattisgarh, making it a key state in the project’s execution. This stretch is considered one of the most critical links as it connects interior regions with interstate trade routes and supports movement towards Jharkhand.
The corridor is expected to improve connectivity between major cities such as Raipur, Bilaspur, Raigarh and Korba, along with industrial centres in Jharkhand including Dhanbad, Ranchi and Jamshedpur. These regions are known for coal, steel and power production, and improved road infrastructure is likely to support faster and more efficient transport of these commodities.
The project includes the construction of around 382 structures to support safe and uninterrupted travel. These comprise seven major bridges, 30 minor bridges, six flyovers and one elevated viaduct. In addition, several underpasses are being built for vehicles, pedestrians, cattle and wildlife movement, along with 278 box culverts to maintain local connectivity and manage water flow.
The design focuses on reducing travel time and improving road safety, especially in areas where local and highway traffic intersect. Better road conditions are also expected to lower fuel consumption and logistics costs for transporters operating between the two states.
This corridor will also improve access to smaller towns such as Pathalgaon, Kansabel, Kunkuri, Duldula and Jashpur. These locations are expected to see better connectivity to markets and services, which may support local businesses and create employment opportunities during and after construction.
National Highway 43 has historically served as an important route linking parts of central India with eastern regions. The ongoing upgrade aligns with broader infrastructure efforts to strengthen connectivity between mineral-rich belts and industrial zones, which has been a focus area under national highway development programmes in recent years.
