The incident, involving a steam tube explosion at the plant in Singhitarai village in mid-April, resulted in multiple fatalities and serious injuries.

Vedanta Power has completed the disbursement of compensation to families and injured persons affected by a boiler-related incident at its power plant in Raigarh district, Chhattisgarh, while reiterating its commitment to continue supporting those impacted.

The company stated that financial assistance of INR 35 lakh each has been provided to the families of deceased workers, while INR 15 lakh has been given to those injured. It also confirmed that the compensation has been released to all 35 affected individuals and families.

Vedanta Power added that it is also evaluating employment opportunities for members of the deceased workers’ families. Along with this, it has planned support for the education of their children up to Class 12. The company also intends to extend skill development training through its centres to help improve the employability of dependents.

The CEO of Vedanta Power, Rajinder Singh Ahuja, expressed grief over the incident and conveyed, in indirect terms, that the company remains deeply saddened by the loss of lives and is committed to supporting the affected families in every possible way.

Following the incident, the company secured the site, stopped operations, and activated emergency response protocols. Injured workers were shifted to hospitals in Raigarh, Kharsia, and Raipur with assistance from local authorities and emergency services.

A central crisis management team has been set up to coordinate relief measures. It is overseeing medical care, continuation of salaries for injured workers, counselling support, and logistical arrangements such as accommodation for family members. The company has also launched a 24-hour helpline named ‘Vedanta Samvedna Kendra’ to assist families and provide updates.

Vedanta Power stated that it is extending full cooperation to regulatory and investigating authorities to determine the cause of the incident.

The incident involved an explosion in a steel tube carrying high-pressure steam from a boiler to a turbine at the Singhitarai village plant. The blast led to the death of 25 workers and caused severe burn injuries to several others. Police had registered an FIR against Agarwal and others in connection with the case.
