Azad Engineering has inaugurated a 7,600 sq metre lean manufacturing facility in Hyderabad to strengthen its long-standing partnership with Baker Hughes. The unit, located within its Centre of Excellence, is designed to enhance production scale, speed, and precision. This marks the company’s fourth dedicated facility, reflecting its continued capacity expansion to meet rising global demand across key sectors. The move also highlights Telangana’s growing prominence in precision engineering, supported by strong export growth, MSME participation, and investments from global OEMs.
Precision engineering firm Azad Engineering has inaugurated a 7,600 sq metre lean manufacturing facility at its Centre of Excellence in Tunikibollaram, Hyderabad, aimed at supporting the global supply chain of energy technology company Baker Hughes.
The facility has been designed to deliver high levels of scale, speed, and precision, and is fully integrated with the company’s existing Centre of Excellence and Innovation Centre ecosystem. The company stated that this expansion aligns with India’s growing role in global manufacturing and advanced engineering capabilities.
This marks Azad Engineering’s fourth dedicated facility, adding to its earlier expansions. The development reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to scale up capacity in response to increasing global demand across sectors such as aerospace, defence, energy, and oil and gas. In recent years, Indian precision engineering firms have seen steady demand from global OEMs seeking diversified and resilient supply chains.
Chairman and CEO Rakesh Chopdar indicated that the facility is part of a planned strategy to establish a dedicated, world-class manufacturing unit with in-house specialised process capabilities exclusively for Baker Hughes. He highlighted that the focus is on delivering consistent quality and reliability for critical components.
The partnership between Azad Engineering and Baker Hughes began around eight years ago, initially focused on supplying critical rotating airfoils for gas and steam turbine finish stages. Over time, this engagement has expanded into a broader strategic relationship supporting industrial and energy technology requirements.
Davide Marrani, Vice President for IET Operations at Baker Hughes, noted that the new facility represents an important step in strengthening the company’s global supply chain and aligns with its long-term growth plans.
Telangana’s Industries and IT Minister D Sridhar Babu pointed out that the state’s precision engineering sector has recorded around 30 per cent year-on-year growth over the past decade, with exports rising by 103 per cent in the past year. The ecosystem includes over 1,500 MSMEs and has attracted repeat investments from global OEMs such as Lockheed Martin, Boeing, GE Aviation, Safran, Airbus, and Honeywell.
He further indicated that the state aims to move beyond manufacturing and position itself as a global centre for engineering innovation, supported by industrial policies and targeted incentives. The collaboration between Azad Engineering and Baker Hughes was described as an example of the type of global partnerships the state is working to enable.
