Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a semiconductor facility and launched multiple infrastructure projects worth over INR 20,000 crore across Gujarat in the past week, covering sectors such as urban development, transport, power, and healthcare. The semiconductor plant, located at Sanand in Ahmedabad, marks the country's second such facility and is expected to strengthen domestic chip manufacturing capabilities. Alongside this, a series of projects were inaugurated or had foundation stones laid in the Vav-Tharad region, including initiatives in road connectivity, railways, and urban infrastructure. The visit also included the launch of a museum in Gandhinagar. The combined developments are part of broader efforts to enhance infrastructure capacity and support industrial and regional growth in the state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a semiconductor manufacturing facility and launched infrastructure projects exceeding INR 20,000 crore across Gujarat in the past week, spanning sectors including urban development, transport, power, healthcare, and rural infrastructure. The visit covered multiple locations, including Gandhinagar, Sanand in Ahmedabad, and Vav-Tharad, where projects were either inaugurated or had foundation stones laid as part of a coordinated development programme.
At Sanand, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Kaynes Semicon plant, marking the commencement of commercial semiconductor production at the facility. The project, developed at an investment of approximately INR 3,300 crore, represents a key addition to India's semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem and is expected to contribute to domestic chip packaging and testing capacity. The facility forms part of the broader national effort to strengthen self-reliance in electronics manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports.
In parallel, a series of infrastructure projects valued at over INR 20,000 crore were launched in the Vav-Tharad region. These projects span multiple sectors, including road transport and highways, railways, power, health services, and urban development, reflecting a multi-sector approach to regional infrastructure expansion. Government officials indicated that the projects are intended to improve connectivity, strengthen service delivery, and support socio-economic development across northern Gujarat.
Among the key developments is the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway, which is expected to enhance connectivity to the Dholera Special Investment Region and support industrial activity in the corridor. Additional works include urban infrastructure initiatives, water resource projects, and improvements in public service infrastructure, forming part of the state's broader urban and regional planning framework.
The Prime Minister's visit also included the inauguration of the Samrat Samprati Museum at Koba Tirth in Gandhinagar, developed to showcase cultural and historical artefacts related to Jain heritage. While not directly linked to infrastructure development, the project forms part of the broader set of initiatives launched during the visit.
Officials stated that the integrated rollout of projects across sectors reflects ongoing coordination between central and state agencies in delivering infrastructure-led growth. The combination of industrial, transport, and urban development investments is expected to support Gujarat's positioning as a manufacturing and logistics hub, while also addressing infrastructure requirements linked to population growth and urbanisation.
The launch of these projects aligns with the government's wider strategy of capital expenditure-led growth, where public investment in infrastructure is used to stimulate economic activity and attract private sector participation. With continued emphasis on industrial corridors, connectivity networks, and urban infrastructure, Gujarat remains a key focus area within the national development framework.
