In a bold move to revitalize the city's landscape and uphold its architectural heritage, the Chandigarh Administration has unveiled plans for two "iconic" buildings set to grace the bustling Madhya Marg. One of these landmarks will be located adjacent to the Taj Hotel, while the other will stand near the SBI building in Sector 17. These visionary structures were originally conceived as part of the Chandigarh Master Plan (CMP-2031), and the volumetric plans for these ambitious projects have now been finalized, awaiting approval from the Chandigarh Heritage Conservation Committee.

Spanning approximately 2.5 acres each, these two plots are slated to house a blend of commercial and institutional spaces that adhere to international standards. One of the buildings is designed to feature world-class facilities capable of hosting international conferences, meetings, and exhibitions, while the second building will primarily offer commercial and office spaces. Furthermore, both structures will include spaces dedicated to promoting tourism-related activities, aiming to enhance the city's attractiveness to visitors.

A consultant has meticulously crafted the volumetric plans, which provide a comprehensive visual representation of the buildings' external appearance. An official involved in the project told the press that the plan offers a glimpse of how the building structure will be perceived from the outside, including detailed information about the height and layout of various facade elements. It presents the 3D geometry of the building and outlines the programs, forming a 2D layout on each floor.

The groundwork for developing these plans commenced following a concerted effort by the administration to implement various aspects of the CMP-2031. The master plan outlines the significance of these proposed buildings, two iconic buildings proposed on the two reserve pockets along Madhya Marg shall make a strong entry statement to the City Centre. However, these buildings should be sensitively designed in consonance with the special architectural expression of Sector 17 as conceived by Le Corbusier.

While the financial strategy and detailed layout plans, along with their implementation phases, are on the horizon, the immediate focus remains on finalizing the volumetric plans. Subsequent steps will be determined based on resource availability and necessity.

The unveiling of these ground breaking plans marks a significant step toward enhancing Chandigarh's status as an architectural and cultural hub, with these "iconic" structures set to leave an indelible mark on the city's skyline.
