Durg district in Chhattisgarh has retained the top position in the latest performance rankings under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), achieving a score of 89.5% across key indicators. Surajpur and Raipur continue to hold the second and third ranks, while Koriya has shown notable improvement. In contrast, southern districts such as Bijapur, Sukma and Narayanpur continue to lag, with Bijapur recording the lowest score of 50.2% and a house completion rate of 24.6%. The state's overall completion rate stands at 70.2% against a target of 26.27 lakh houses. The data highlights regional disparities in rural housing delivery and implementation efficiency under the central government's flagship scheme.
Durg district has secured the top rank in the latest performance assessment of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) in Chhattisgarh, while Bijapur continues to remain at the bottom, reflecting significant regional disparities in the implementation of the rural housing scheme across the state.
The latest report places Durg at the forefront with an average performance score of 89.5% across four key parameters used to assess implementation. The district has maintained its position through consistent execution of the programme, with officials attributing the outcome to sustained administrative efforts and monitoring mechanisms.
Surajpur and Raipur have retained their second and third positions respectively, indicating stability among the top-performing districts. Dhamtari has moved up to fourth rank, displacing Balod to fifth, suggesting incremental improvements in certain regions. Koriya has recorded the most notable progress, rising from 17th to 14th position, and achieving the highest sanction rate in the state at 108.6%, reflecting acceleration in approvals under the scheme.
In contrast, several districts have witnessed a decline in rankings. Korba and Gariaband have both slipped by two positions, indicating inconsistent progress in project execution and completion. The report points to a broader pattern of underperformance in the southern belt of the state, where multiple districts continue to lag behind the state average.
Bijapur remains the lowest-ranked district, with an average performance score of 50.2% and a house completion rate of only 24.6%. Sukma and Narayanpur also feature among the bottom-performing districts, recording scores of 64.1% and 64.8% respectively. These figures indicate persistent challenges in delivering rural housing projects in these regions, including slower construction progress and lower completion rates.
At the state level, the average house completion rate under PMAY-Gramin currently stands at 70.2%, against a total target of 26.27 lakh houses. While progress remains steady in aggregate terms, the variation in district-level performance highlights uneven implementation capacity and localised constraints affecting project delivery.
The rankings underscore the importance of administrative efficiency and ground-level execution in achieving housing targets under PMAY-Gramin, a scheme aimed at providing permanent housing to rural households. The divergence between leading and lagging districts indicates that while certain regions have streamlined processes and monitoring systems, others continue to face structural and operational challenges that impact timely completion.
