Hyatt hotels aims to grow its portfolio to 100 properties in India

Hyatt Hotels, a prominent player in the hospitality industry, is set for substantial growth in the Indian market. The company plans to expand its current portfolio of 43 properties to a total of 50 by year-end, with a long-term goal of reaching 100 properties in the next five years. In the past year, Hyatt successfully opened nine new hotels and is preparing to add 10 more to achieve its target of 10,000 rooms in India. The expansion includes introducing new brands like Hyatt Centric and Hyatt Place in various locations, focusing on experiential packages to enhance guest experiences, and positioning itself as the preferred choice for travellers in the region.

In a strategic move to solidify its presence in the Indian hospitality market, Hyatt Hotels, the renowned hotel management company known for operating brands such as Hyatt Regency and Alila Diwa, has announced plans for substantial expansion. According to Sunjae Sharma, the Managing Director for India and Southwest Asia at Hyatt India Consultancy Pvt. Ltd, the company intends to increase its property count from the current 43 to a total of 50 by the end of this year. Furthermore, Hyatt aims to reach an impressive milestone of 100 properties within the next five years.



In the previous year, Hyatt successfully inaugurated nine new hotel properties and is now gearing up to add an additional 10 to meet its target of 10,000 rooms across India. The company also manages two hotels in neighbouring Nepal.



In 2023, Hyatt made significant strides in the Indian market by introducing its five-star boutique hotel brand, Hyatt Centric, in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, and Goa. Additionally, it launched the upscale Hyatt Place in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. Hyatt's expansion plans extend to Hebballi in Karnataka's Bengaluru and Haridwar, Uttarakhand, where new hotels are in the pipeline.



Under its JdV by Hyatt brand, the company is set to unveil Ronil Goa and properties in Kolkata, West Bengal, Bodh Gaya, Bihar, and Goa in the same year. Looking ahead to 2024, Hyatt has plans for three Hyatt Regency properties in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, and the Kochi Malayattoor Resort in Kerala.



Hyatt's success in recent times can be attributed to its focus on experiential packages, which include immersive local culinary experiences and spa services. These offerings have played a pivotal role in boosting revenue.



While Hyatt is making remarkable strides in the Indian market, Sharma emphasized that the company's goal is not necessarily to become the largest hotel chain but to be the most preferred choice for travellers.



In addition to its expansion efforts, Hyatt has also managed the Hyatt Regency Mumbai. However, the hotel ceased operations in June 2021 due to financial difficulties faced by the property's owner, Asian Hotels (West) Ltd. The closure resulted from a default on a loan repayment to Yes Bank.
