Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has undertaken demolition action against an unauthorised structure in the Nerul division after the property owner failed to comply with a statutory notice issued under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966. The construction, located in Nerul village, was found to be ongoing despite prior enforcement warnings. The action was executed under the direction of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, with supervision from senior officials including Additional Commissioner Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr Kailas Gaikwad. The operation involved municipal staff, labourers and mechanised equipment, supported by police personnel. The civic body has stated that enforcement drives will continue to address unauthorised developments across its jurisdiction.
Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation carried out a demolition drive in the Nerul division targeting an unauthorised construction that continued despite prior regulatory notices, as part of its ongoing anti-encroachment enforcement measures across the city.
The action was taken against a structure located at House No. 816/2 in Sector 20, Nerul village, registered under the name of Rajesh Dattatray Patil. The civic body had issued a notice under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, after identifying that construction activity was being undertaken without requisite approvals. Despite the notice, the construction work reportedly continued, prompting the municipal administration to initiate demolition proceedings.
The enforcement operation was conducted in the past week under the direction of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, with oversight from Additional Commissioner (2) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr Kailas Gaikwad. The Nerul division office coordinated the action, with Assistant Commissioner and Divisional Officer Dr Anuradha Babar leading the on-ground execution along with staff from the encroachment department.
Officials confirmed that the unauthorised structure was removed as part of a planned demolition drive organised by the division. The operation involved a team of eight labourers supported by a JCB machine for dismantling the structure. Police personnel from the municipal enforcement wing were present at the site to ensure security and maintain order during the exercise.
The civic administration stated that notices are issued to property owners under the applicable provisions of the planning law, providing an opportunity for voluntary compliance. In cases where such notices are not acted upon, enforcement measures, including demolition, are undertaken in accordance with legal procedures.
The Nerul operation forms part of a broader campaign by the municipal corporation to curb unauthorised construction activity across Navi Mumbai. Rapid urbanisation and development pressures have led to recurring instances of unapproved structures, necessitating periodic enforcement drives by civic authorities.
Officials indicated that the administration will continue to monitor construction activity across divisions and take action where violations of planning norms are identified. The focus remains on ensuring compliance with approved development plans and preventing further unauthorised construction.
The municipal corporation has reiterated that such demolition drives will be intensified in the coming period, with particular attention to areas witnessing ongoing or newly initiated unauthorised developments. The enforcement reflects the administration's continued emphasis on maintaining regulatory discipline in urban development and safeguarding planned growth within its jurisdiction.
