Asset management firm Piper Serica has deployed nearly INR 210 crore across more than 33 startups through its Category I Alternative Investment Fund (AIF), the company said on Monday.

Out of the total fund size of INR 273 crore, the remaining INR 63 crore is expected to be invested over the next two to three months.

The SEBI-registered fund focuses on early-stage, technology-led companies operating in high-growth sectors such as deeptech, fintech, artificial intelligence, spacetech, defence, semiconductors, and biosciences.

Piper Serica's current portfolio includes startups such as Alt Mobility, Sensesemi, Pantherun, Freed, Coratia Technologies, and Six Sense Mobility, reflecting its focus on emerging and innovation-driven businesses.

According to Ajay Modi, Director at Piper Serica, India is witnessing a shift from consumption-driven growth to capability-led expansion. He pointed to a defence procurement pipeline exceeding INR 6 lakh crore, a USD 10 billion semiconductor mission, and a liberalised space sector as key drivers of industrial demand.

The fund has adopted a sector-focused investment strategy, backing companies working on technology-driven solutions and intellectual property-led innovation. Modi noted that the approach is centred on supporting founders addressing structural challenges in markets where building strong intellectual property is critical.

The remaining capital will be deployed in line with this strategy, with a continued focus on high-potential sectors and early-stage ventures.
